Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I am gathering info with the goal of retrofitting/fabricating 996 style front suspension into my 944. Guys have done it over the years but photos have been lost or those folks are not able to be contacted anymore. one basic piece of info I would like to know is the length of the lower control arm coffin arm. I would like a measurement from center of chassis-side bushing to center of ball joint stud, if anyone has an arm laying around. Not sure if I would try to reverse the tension link or make a new part but that comes later.

POST 2Original post

I just did a suspension refresh on my 2002 Boxster S and here are the measurements I just took . As you probably know the ball joint end is angled up . Center to center at the bottom 12 1/2 inches . Measurement at the top 12 inches . The top measurement I took with the ball joint bolt pushed to vertical . Hope that makes sense . The Boxster and 996 early years share the same suspension components .

Hi, bumping this up again in hopes of getting two more measurements. This is a long slow project... Can anyone with a spare 996/986 Coffin arm tell me the overall width of the inner control arm bushing (where it bolts to the subframe)? Hoping it is around 60mm. Also looking for the thickness of the outer bushing where the tension link attaches. I know the 997+ cars have a taller bushing here but I don't know the size of the 996 part.

Did you get this measurement yet? I have pieces I can measure if you still need it. Post reply or send DM and I'll get it for you. YMMV

POST 6Original post

Here you go: Let me know if you need any other measurements.

POST 7Original post

My pictures are not showing up for me. So here's what they measure: The bushing that is on the end that bolts to the frame is 62mm. The bushing in the middle that bolts to the control arm link is 42mm.

terrific ! thank you very much !!

POST 9Original post

I can measure a 996 control arm link if you wish. I should have one laying around somewhere.

yes, please. Fork hole to bushing hole center-center would be very useful.

POST 11Original post

370mm from center of hole to center of hole (note I offset the tape measure below by 10cm so I could get an accurate measurement)
