Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone, can anyone tell me where the other end of this, I believe, vacuum line goes to??? I inadvertently pulled it off when removing the alternator. Its on my 2004 996 , and is it really needed?

POST 2Original post

Here is the diagram for the vacuum lines. M96.01/02/03 Intake Distributor M96.04 I believe it goes to item 15 on the chart, which is part number 993-110-462-02

POST 4Original post

That line goes from the changeover valve to the intake resonator flap actuator.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is the alternator original from my '04 996?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oh man, how the hell am I going to get that back into the other hose way back there.

POST 7Original post

Your alternator does indeed have the label indicating it's an OEM Porsche part.

Remove the throttle body, remove the front plenum, and you'll be able to reach it underneath the second plenum if I recall correctly. (You can always loosen those hose clamps and rotate it so you can get to it easier. To remove plenums, loosen the large hose clamps, shift the rubber "hoses" both outwards onto the intake as far as you can and twist the plenum. To get it back in, you push one end in at a time. It is VERY fiddly and you'll think it won't work. You'll think you might break something, then after struggling for a bit the second end will pop right back in. You'll wonder why it didn't do that X minutes ago. When you go in that deep, to connect the vacuum line to the resonator flap actuator, also put a rubber cap over the resonator flap pivot point. Search on here for resonator flap pivot point cap. I also spray the plenum rubber liberally with silicone spray to make it much easier for them to slide and get the front plenum re-centered.

Hmmm...I quoted TexSquirrel and added my part. Don't know why it posted like that.
