Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I don't know anything about the AWD systems yet, but I saw a picture of a TIP AWD car transmission. It only seemed to have two axle connections. Is the Tiptronic trans the same for a C4 and a C2? I'm used to some truck 4x4's that have four axle hookups on the trans. Thanks

POST 2Original post

I believe the insides are basicly the same, but the 4 has "more parts" inside and the power output system is very differant

POST 3Original post

I'm not familiar with the older 99-01 units, but the newer 02+ units are different part numbers for RWD vs AWD on the porsche and mercedes end. The connections you are looking for to drive the front wheels are not individually on the case, but the "front" of the C4 unit drives what I will call a torque tube which connects to a separate front differential.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok thanks. That answers the question for me. I saw the difference in the pictures at the one end of the trans. I was really asking the question because I was wondering if a C2 trans or a Boxster TIP trans would match up to my C4 (much easier and cheaper to find on the internet). But the answer is NO. Thanks

Yes I remember seeing that C4 tip transmissions were substantially harder to find and often very expensive. What happened to your old one?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, nothing has happened to my current one. I have been looking to buy an 02 C4 Cab, Tiptronic. However, as of this morning, the guy pulled out of the deal. It had 45K miles on it and was mint, dealer serviced for $29K. So I was just trying to figure out if I wanted to buy an aftermarket warranty or if I wanted to self-insure (by seeing of the tips were interchangeable). Mute point for now...still looking
