Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Title says it all. I am in the final stages of the home I am building and want to install a 4-post lift in the garage for both storage as well as working on the car (brakes, oil, etc.). I have a catalog from Superlifts which seem to be REALLY nicely built. But would like more than one option to choose from when making this decision. Thanks!!!

POST 2Original post

Sh944 installed a 4 post lift in his garage about a year ago, and he loves it. Can't remember the brand off hand. You might PM him and ask. It is a very solid lift and well built. They are still a bear to work under if your ceiling does not allow the lift to go up all the way when working on a car, then you end up hunched over trying to do a job under it. For oil changes and storage though, they are pretty nice.

POST 3Original post

be careful with the height!! A guy on the 993 forum had his lift fail and it crunched his window frame!!! And that must be a very expensive repair!!!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Careful with what height? And crunched what frame? Please do elaborate or point me to the thread. Thanks!

POST 5Original post

We use Rotary lifts at our shop and they are one of the better lifts out there... I would recommend them. Also, they have a bar that goes across the top of them as a safety so you cant cruch anything. If the bar is contacted, the lift cuts its self -Keith

POST 6Original post

We also use rotary 2 post lifts at the shop and they are great. If you have a very tall ceiling, a rotary 2 post lift is the way to go if you want to do any amount of work on your car. If you are just storing vehicles, or have limited height space, then you are pretty much stuck with a drive on 4 post lift. Unless you have a seperate shop building though, you probably don't have room for a 2 post.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

while I do agree a two post lift is the way to go for service, I need a 4 post since I am using it for storage as well and do NOT want the suspension sagging for long periods of time. I have the ceiling height for a 2 poster but that isn't what I need.

POST 8Original post

The problem with a two post lift is the space. The location of the posts interfere with the adjacent garage bays. I have a Cytech Double park and it has been great. 110 Volts, just plug it in and go. It cost me 5K CDN installed. I've got 11 feet of clearance in the garage and it's fine for all my cars WRT ceiling clearance. I have the optional drip trays (necessary for vintage drips). There is also an optional crossmember for bottle jacks, but I didn't need that. Overall, a great device for storing and working on the cars.
