I know their will be quite a range depending on options, mileage, general condition, economic conditions so on so forth however does anyone have any guesstimates as to what an 02' C4S would be worth in 3 years time. I currently have an 01' Boxster but would like to get into a '4' seater so I can lug my kids around periodically. Thanks.

Where do I send my Nigerian $ order?
The will all have blown engines and be there for the taking.... just rotting under a tarp sorry.
If I had to make a real guess I would say mid to high 20's with lower mileage.
barring any major aberrations from what i've seen on these cars, and assuming you buy close to auction price, you can safely depreciate the vehicle by 10-12% per year assuming normal usage. If you buy closer to retail or at a premium, expect to take a beating comparatively. C4S bought today in the low 30s will probably trade in the very low 20s 3 years out. I sold a 2003 last year for $35k and I thought that was good with 80k miles - car was immaculate in and out though......in 3 years a 2002 C4S with average porsche driver miles say 60-70K miles would be about $15-20k depending on condition.....it will be an eight year old car........only thing I would be apprehensive about with all 99-2009 996 Porsche non turbo/GT cars would be IMS/RMS issues......that is why I sold mine as the warranty expired......too much of a risk to me anyway while the car was still worth something to trade on......
...I don't know what you guys are talking about. I fully expect them to go up in value like all rare and exceptional P-cars.
Ratty ones for low $20s, nice ones for high $20s. As has always been true and always will be: You'll see Porsches on Ebay or Craigslist and say, "look how cheap they've gotten" but when you try to find a good one that passes a ppi and has been cared for, they'll cost a bit more. Having bought two Porsches that needed some work for good prices, and one that needed nothing for a higher price, the latter was much cheaper.
I would say high 20's! and in Canada low 30's!
well driven cars upper teens - unapprieciated low-milers mid 20's

+1!!!!!!
17 sounds right
Sounds like if I keep $25k in the piggy bank I should be fine.
$17k doesn't buy a decent example of a 1999 (3 years older than C4S) today, and that model is considered to be the least desirable of the line up, why would one expect the same price to get a C4S in 3 years? Many people consider the C4S the best looking of the bunch, and they're more rare. Now as for me personally, I'm not interested in a 4wd 911, and would own a 99 (have already done so), if it were me, all 911s would be RWD with LSDs standard, and sunroofs would not exist!
$3.50.
3 chickens, 2 goats, 6 turtles, and 1 pig, but don't qoute me on this.
HEY! Turtles are illegal as trade. I drop the turtles and up the offer to 6 aardvarks!
mid to high 20's.
I agree with $17-ish. I'm currently in the process of selling my '02 C4S with 61k miles for high $20s. Admittedly it's a track car; seats, roll bar harnesses, PSS10s, etc but high 20s low 30s is what it is today.
This will be a fun post to re-visit late in 2013.

Will you consider a trade??? One yak for one chicken and the pig?
PRICELESS Why worry - after driving the car for 3 years you won't be able to put a price on it.
Good question! I graphed the value of the 2002 and 2003 C4S models before I bought mine a few weeks back - and did an extrapolation. The data gets ratty - but there is a trend. Basically, for this year, the 2002 has a range of $26 - $40k and the 2003 has a range of $30 - $40k. Note in the attached pic of my graph that 2009 was not kind to this model (or any of the other 996's), as the trend was rather flat during the years 2006 - 2008. Then in '09 the averages dropped significantly. Since there was a steep drop in '09 and pricing has been steady in '10, that the pricing will sort of flatten at this level for a few more years. Why the drop? I'd suggest the economy and the widely broadcast RMS leaks and ICS bearing failures. Not that I want to give Mr. Bruce Anderson any credit, but this is where the data came from, and I have to mention he tends to be on the high side for the excellent condition values (vs. good condition) most of the time.
