Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

broken gear box anywhere? need a stock r/p for 99-01 thanks M

POST 2Original post

just curious...how did you come into a need for one? I know how I did on my 944... Can't help you with the part though.

POST 3Original post

944s had pretty weak gearboxes though, I don't think it's common on a 996.

POST 4Original post

The 996 pinion bearings fail. If it's let to go too long with a bad bearing the ring and pinion eats itself. Try California Motorsports for a ring and pinion. They build a lot of these boxes and might have spares.
