Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've never seen a P car wrecked that bad, and to think is was just 10 minutes or less from home. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=14382034

POST 2Original post

I've looked at that picture a few times and I don't really recognize anything in it. It's amazing that they are still alive...

POST 3Original post

Whoa! Any idea what year or model that was? I can't even tell anymore.

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 8303716

Too bad the wife was in the car.......the driver got just rewards.

POST 5Original post

Its unfortunate for the driver and passanger This reminds us to be safe out there

POST 6Original post

whoa is right.... looks like an air cooled cab. Maybe late 70's early 80's.

Judging by the door panels I'd say a 993. I don't remember seeing any other 911 with panels like that. Plus it has airbags too so it's not an old one.

Heavily damaged cars are sometimes not easily recognizable because certain sections may have been cut away/cut off to facilitate the extraction of the occupant(s). I agree with you that they're lucky to be alive.

POST 10Original post

HMMM yup 993 door panels in the pic you are looking at the flywheel, the fan is much higher... the trans is missing....

POST 12Original post

The article attributes their survival from the crash/plunge to 'wearing seatbelts..." Something tells me that if they had been in a different car - particularly a different convertible - the outcome would have been worse. Anybody want to plunge down a snowy ravine in a Sebring? The SC/964/993-series cars were built like tanks. I saw a demo at dCAuto one time of how they cut an undamaged front clip from a otherwise wrecked Boxster. It took about 5 minutes with a Salzall. The owner told us it would take 20-30 minutes to do the same with a 993 or 964.

POST 13Original post

Ok... I thought that is the fan showing, but it is the flywheel end showing.... early 911 had that hose in a diagonal like that.... but it is a 993 engine facing the wrong way. How that engine got flipped 180deg... well the article say that it was a very technical rescue.

POST 14Original post

Ferd the intake is all wrong for anything new (aka 993/964) motor looks like a 3.3 turbo from a 930.....its def older than 993 and even older than the 964's..I have seen one like this but cant put my finger on it....

POST 15Original post

http://www.turboswaps.com/turbo-engi...gine-european/ this is an 82 turbo = same fuel distribution system... not 964 or newer the motor in the wrecked car is even older.... see the airbox is metal....

POST 16Original post

But the door panels really look like those from a 993. Definitely not an earlier Carrera as the main grab bar was much more vertical.

POST 17Original post

oh for sure the door panels are 993 (with the exception of missing the round **** by the window switch) my guess is the car had a mix of parts (updates?) you can see the engine lid latch.... its round...= early

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If it's a 993 Turbo Cab, it's one of only 12-14 ever built according to this: http://993c4s.com/porsche-culture/po...actoid-part-3/ Were any Turbo 930 Cabs built prior to the 993s? And are the door panels 993 or earlier?

POST 20Original post

...and the news article states that the driver tried to go around a surprise rock in the road and the turbo kicked in and flung the car off the cliff. Door panels look 993 to me. Here is a photo of a 993 door panel:

POST 22Original post

Horrific? Lousy ***** more like it since he wrecked the 911 too besides his family.

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 8304661

We all forgot about the wreck and became more interested in what this Frankenstein car is!

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 8304153

No cabs until the 83 SC... I'm guessing that this is an early 90's 964 cab with a transplanted early 930 motor...

POST 25Original post

Look at the bright side. Now he has an excuses to do some major mods to his car.

POST 26Original post

I could not find a 993 door panel (which I agree this is) that didnt have this part... the one in the crash is missing it ?? is it a speaker or the lock??? and FWIW NO-ONE back dates a fuel supply system... that motor is NOT 993 (If I am wrong I will donate another $20 to rennwish!) (let's make this worth doing )

POST 27Original post

according to this site that motor was offered in the 91-93 Turbo... to me it looks older, but i can prove it - I vote NO WAY on 993 motor http://auto.howstuffworks.com/porsche-911-history24.htm

POST 32Original post

1990 964s. '89 964s did not come with an airbag.

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 8305382

the wipers are very close together ala 993, but that is not a 993 gas tank, brake booster or cover over the wiper motor....gas tank is for the doughnut spare like the earlier carerra's 993 86 Carerra notice the fuse box as well... more like the 86 (early)

POST 35Original post

the paint chips at the door may suggest that it has been through some transformation... not original. Its a later 911 with some 993 upgrades. It prob even had the 993 lights as well.

yeah, once he's in prison he'll likely wish he had died in that accident

POST 39Original post

Quotes source post: 8305650

You're right I saw that first photo and it looked like a passenger air bag but after a closer look it's the back of the seat. Had me confused for a moment.

POST 40Original post

1980s turbo cab with a body update kit / interior update? Heck, it was likely a "salvage" tilte rebuild found on ebay. Lets not forget, the driver is the father of the "5 browns" afterall.. he's not gonna slum it in a "updated" longhood afterall
