Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was just headed home in my MY99 black coupe, up ahead coming my way was a black, whale tailed air cooled 911 turbo. As it approached I thought for sure that the driver would not acknowledge me with a wave....but I was WRONG. I recieved an enthusiastic wave from the other Porsche driver and immediately waved back. It made my day and confirmed that a Porsche is a Porsche with no distinctions made other than that.

POST 2Original post

here is the question: would you wave at me in my porsche?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7512826

Of course.

POST 6Original post

Yeah, I passed two that waved at me both times and by the time I saw them they were passed me.... I felt like a shmuck that I didnt get to wave back

POST 7Original post

I allways give the thumbs up......sometimes I get a smirk and sometimes I get a big wave.

POST 8Original post

Yeah, but it seems like we're all ex 944 owners ourselves, other non-Porsches...

Depends if the driver is a bodacious topless blonde

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 7513025

i would wave, but if i didnt get one back i would assume the driver thought i was in a mazda

Nice looking Cayenne! That looks very similar to mine!

POST 14Original post

They gotta wave first....I've been fooled too many times by them

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 7513025

C'mon, you think the driver is going to put their cell phone down to wave? Yes, there are of course some Porsche enthusiasts that own Cayennes but it's the exception, not the rule.

POST 16Original post

I always wave to other Porsches when I'm driving the Cayenne. My wife... not so much...

POST 17Original post

Ok... update... she was standing over my shoulder when I typed that. She tells me that she ALWAYS waves to other Porsches, but that other Cayenne drivers rarely wave back...

POST 18Original post

I wave to other Porsche SPORTS CARS. If applicable, I acknowledge or wave to other sports car enthusiasts, be they in a Vette, a 370z, or something nicer - we are all out there enjoying our a sports car. I don't wave to SUVs.

POST 19Original post

lol, i was driving home from the meet yesterday and coming the opposite direction i saw an arm come up from their opened top, of course i return the gesture.

POST 20Original post

Man nobody waves around here. Other Porsche drivers don't even look at you. Only time is when you're headed to a PCA event and the other drivers are too.

POST 21Original post

Got a wave from both a Ferrari and a Panamera on a country road driving to Middleburg VA:

POST 22Original post

I wave or flash lights to all other Porsches, but rarely see any when I'm driving mine it seems.

POST 23Original post

I've had my 996 for about 3 weeks now. A few days ago, I'm driving home from work, and this brand-new looking white Boxter is approaching in the opposite direction. The driver is a distinguished looking gentleman with white hair to match his white Porsche. He casually and cooly raises his fingers from the steering wheel to make a slight wave, and nods his head slightly. I was surprised, and quickly waived back as it hit me... I actually own a freakin' Porsche! I'm in the Club! Downshifted and drove the rest of the way home smiling. Made my day.

POST 24Original post

I wave to everybody but Cayennes and women driving Boxsters--I've just given up on ever getting a wave back from them. Also, the older the 911 the better the chance they'll wave. As for the 924/944 owners, I always wave to them because they almost always wave back, though I think I really confused that one 944 guy when I forgot I was driving my wife's Malibu. What really irks me is when I'm at a light right next to a Boxster or Cayenne and the driver won't even acknowledge the bright yellow 911 right next to them. I hate, hate hate that.

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I guess not eveyone who drives a Porsche, any Porsche, has the same interest or enthusiasm that most Rennlist or other porsche forum members may have. Oh well.(you'd think that would be a requirement)

POST 26Original post

I wave on back roads where the driver is out having fun. In town they are more the "it's a porch" people.

POST 27Original post

i've noticed that cayenne drivers always let me cut in front of them in bumper to bumper

POST 28Original post

i had to stand up for you guys https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...is-happen.html

POST 29Original post

Ha ha, thanks third gen....good one. Waving is nice and I do try to do it as often as I can!

POST 30Original post

I always get laser guns waved at me and wave back unless I'm braking.

POST 31Original post

I always wave to Porsche drivers, but all I usually get back are dirty looks. This is especially true when driving my Jeep.

POST 32Original post

I am just a recent owner and waves sometimes to other P-Cars though I have to confess, I rarely remember to wave to SUVs. I say I sometimes wave due to the fact that both my kids always waves first especially when we have the top down and I feel kind of funny if all three of us started to wave and the other cars around us are looking at us funny.

POST 33Original post

I live here in Carefree, Arizona, just north of Scottsdale. I must see 50+ Porsche's a day here, they're everywhere. I waive, blink my lights and toot my horn at other Porsche's all the time and get nothing 90% of the time. Its safe to say they are not Porsche purists just people that like to spend lots of money on cars.

POST 34Original post

Nebraska in the real country its just one index finger up off the steering wheel pointed up while passing. This included while popping up and down on rolling hills and turns. No hands off the wheels so most would probably miss it. Hawaii its a head nod tilting upwards. For some of us the wave is a strange thing to do for a die hard local. With the porsche yah I've done the classic wave. Bikes its normally the left hand pointing at the ground passing going opposite ways. This means keep it on the road so to speak. Fist on top of the helmet means cops ahead. I kind of miss the old days of virginia where cars would turn the headlights on after passing a speed trap. Now of days I might flash my headlights for a while after passing a trap. Normally the lame headlights on during the day cars ruin any idea of figuring if its an east coast guy warning its cops or just another lame duck car that turns the light on so that you can tell its moving instead of parked. They drive so slow some times its hard to tell

I am bodacious and blond. Does that count? You don't want to see me topless.

After living in Temecula for a number of years, that second statement strikes my funny bone.

POST 37Original post

I was in my air cooled black 911 today and got a look from a guy in a 996 turbo, so as I drove by him through the intersection, I gave him a point and a smile and got the same back from him. Later he pulled up behind me and I could see him start to laugh a bit as he likely read my license plate which reads OVRR STR - an apt word for these cars.

POST 39Original post

I wave IF I notice. Same true, when I'm on the bike or in the Jeep. Some folks don't. For me, its one of three factors on why others may not - traffic (didn't see me), they're better than me , or they just don't know the "custom".

Yes but is it a Front porch, or a Back porch?

POST 41Original post

Being a former 944 owner, I always try and wave but rarely get a response from most Boxsters, Cayannes, or Caymans. I usually DO get waves from 944's, and most 996's.

POST 42Original post

Drove to work on Friday with the 996, waved to 5 Porsche's ranging from a 993, 986, 987, 996 Turbo and a 996 Mk II and none of them waved back. I got eye contact with all of the other drivers and they each had a too cool for school look on their faces to wave back. Gotta love the DC area,

POST 43 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Amazing how many unware owners there are driving Porsches.

POST 44Original post

I think alot of people buy these cars for the crest on the hood and not for the love of the car/driving experience.

I'm "aware" but I drive a Honda. Does that count?

POST 46 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yesterday afternoon I was wheeling my Porsche heading home, and coming at me was a Miata, top down(he gets extra points for that) and initiated a huge 'wave' at me, so of course I returned the wave. I remember in the 60s and 70s driving my Austin Healey, that every British sports car would wave at each other...maybe its coming back again.

POST 47Original post

I've passed 12 Porsches this week various types, waved at them all and not a single wave back, they just look at you as if you are mad. Come on Houston, it's a simple wave, step out of your bubble for 5 seconds.
