Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In my last post, pcar wouldn't start I thought it was a faulty starter. It turned out to be that my spare key is not coded (haven't used it for a while). Does anyone know how to make the transponder work? Or do i have to bring it to the dealer to have it coded. Thanks

POST 2Original post

Hi Jose, I believe you have to take it in to the dealer to have the car's computer programmed to recognize the key. Your key is probably coded but the on board computer does not recognize it for some reason.

POST 3Original post

As I understand it, the car is coded to the key, as opposed to the other way around. Each key head contains a transponder that hand shakes with the car's central computer prior to start being possible. It takes a PST2, but an independent shop cannot do the job, as the procedure requires a code for the car that must be obtained by the authorized dealer from PCNA. This code is well guarded because with it, and a PST2, existing key transpoders can be erased from memory and new ones added. Each car's computer can accomodate a number (5, I believe) of separate key transponders. If the key has a remote head, then the bar code tag that came with the key head must be on hand also. That is for the separate task of mating the remote xmitter to the alarm/lock system.

thanks for the info. I'm taking key to the dealer to have it programmed.
