I have a clear tube the size of what you'ld figure a washer tube would be and it's not connected to anything. Windshield washers work great. The tube comes from the passenger side of the cowling area and reachs as far as the battery. It is a clear tube with a black plastic 90 degree joint to plug into something. It's been this was every since getting the car. Anybody got an idea of what it is? Any place online with a microfische?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It sounds like the tube that takes gases away from the battery. If it is it should be plugged into the top of the battery case. When its in position it reduces the chance of an explosion if you create a spark near the battery!
battery vent or drain tube for the front cowl tray
Thanks guys. Today the dealers parts guy said the same about the battery vent being the clear tube. With a generic battery arrangement the tubes out of place. Then the drain below the steering shaft and its missing tube is the only problem now. Dealer couldn't come up with diagram for the 996's drains. But I've got a printing of porsche parts page with the below as a header. Model 996 | Year 1999 | MG 8 | SG 13 | Illistration 813-10 | UPD 248 | The page shows two tubes and I'll be darned if either of us can figure out which tube it is. You'ld think it would be simple for a tube that secures with a gromet to the bottom of the cowl space. Oh well.
I don't think this diagram shows what you are looking for, but I thought I would post it anyway.
