I'v been searching around and cannot be 100% sure about how to get this done and am considering bailing on an IMS change if I cannot. I have 2 cam locking tools, one that is a single camshaft lock and one that locks 2 camshafts. I've took off both bank cam covers and both top cams do not have slots on the top cam. This seems I can only fit the tool that locks a single cam, and that kind of freaks me out I want zero room for error. I am also not having any luck figuring out if I am TDC on exhaust or intake? Or does it not matter as long as they are locked for the IMS. Very paranoid so if anyone has any insight please let me know.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I must have a 5 chain engine then (sorry im new and dumb) so I see just the one locking tool makes sense. But what is this second thing for? I want to be sure I dont blow up my engine for something stupid. Thanks
U lock it with the upper smaller tool. U have to remove the upper rubber cam plug, usually green (sometimes brown). Replace it with a new one. There is an empty bolt hole below for the tool on the drivers side rear. U will also need a pin to locate the crank in the corect spot. U should really do a lot more research on this subject it u r being tripped up on this first step. There is a ton if info to review and a Bentley manual spells out the process well. The other tool is for a 3.6l 3 chain motor.
