Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, all. I have an early-build MY1999 996.1 andlike the included photothe Carrera badging is in line with the turn signals. Thing is, I've seen oodles of other 996.1s where the badging is in line with the brake lights. Sometimes even within the same model year. For instance, my 996 has yellow turn signals, but I've seen other yellow light cars with the lower-mounted badge. Meanwhile, the car in this photo is presumably at least a MY2000 given the clear lenses, but there's the badge back on top. Any idea what this whole aesthetic oscillation is all about? And when it ended and why? I'm not bothered by it, but it's certainly a source of (minor) intrigue for me. Thanks!

I also wonder why some are badged "911" and others "Carrera"

Because it looks better

POST 4Original post

It sure does look better, but did it leave the factory like that?

POST 5Original post

It is my understanding that the “Carrera” rear nameplate in higher on rear lid on 1999”2001 cars then starting in 2002 badge lowered on the deck, the only 996 with the “911” rear emblem was the 40th Anniversary model. Rich

POST 6Original post

My car is a January 1999 build with the Carrera emblem higher up.

And here is a 2002 with the badging on the lower section

POST 11Original post

I think you are right Millennium Edition cars had “911” emblem high on tail “40th” had them lower, now we are really deep in the weeds 😀 Rich

Did you modify the lower part to fit the GT exhaust? Love the look!

My donor car had a banged up rear bumper so i cut the bottom 3" off and filled/smoothed the side cut outs and added a cup hook. Its modled off the center output cup bumper. Im pretty sure i have pics in my thread, including fixing it from melting the liscence plate off it.....heat shieds r important.
