Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow, I'm a believer. My previous record for getting up Big Bear mountain was :42 in my '03 Boxster. The wife and I did it in :32 today. I've done it in :45 in my '96 Corvette, which has gobs of power but corners like Oprah on a ten-speed. Traffic was almost non-existent, and the people I did catch up with were awesome about waving me by. Even the freeways were great - I spotted a Prius in the #3 lane where be belonged! I definitely don't think the rear end would have been nearly as planted without the 8-degree shims. I thought the underdrive pulley was the best mod for the money, but if you have an aerokit, the shims are the bomb. I'm sure the gas mileage suffered greatly, but barreling up a mountain isn't exactly hypermiling anyway. While I miss my Boxster's mid-engine forgiveness, the 911's brute power, and its demand for a light touch and some serious self-control when it comes to braking, has won my heart.

Can you elaborate? I thought the IMS was the bomb...

POST 5Original post

Cheers to that! The 911 is night and day to a Boxster.

POST 7Original post

Who needs a TT haha. Aren't ours just the best. Nice report.

POST 8Original post

I love posts like this. Our cars do handle very well and it does not get mentioned enough. Since the wife and you did it in :32, maybe you can go up there aging today by yourself and shoot for :31.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The downhill run took :33 - the road was still cold, and I couldn't get the tires (Goodyear F1's that came on the car - not my favorites...) hot until we got below 7,000 feet. The car still performed magnificently - I was wondering how much power loss I'd see, but I still had plenty to pass (legally) all the way up to 8,400 feet... Bonus: My wife asked about the automatic throttle blip on downshift and was suitably impressed when made aware that the car has no such feature. I suppose that means my heel-toe is starting to suck less.
