Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can't see the forest for the trees. I am trying to locate my engine serial number but despite the help I received from another thread I still can't find it. The attached picture is is a shot of the rear of the drivers side engine with the wheel off. You can see the heat shield covering the coil/spark plugs. Inside the upper red circle it says "Vario Cam" and inside the lower circle is a tab with "R3324" on it. Can anyone point out where I should be looking? Like 2 inches left and down an inch or something like that. I did not remove the heat shield yet, so no points off for that. Thanks,

Not 100% sure cause I'm not that familiar with 996 cars but I think you need to look lower on the engine. The serial number is on a casting boss just above the seam where the oil sump cover and the engine join. Here's a pic of my Cayman's serial number location: Sincerely, Macster.

Found it, Thanks. I had to clean it off and then I could hardly see it.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
