wave to each other and other 911's? Do you get the impression they think we are all boxsters?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I generally flash the high beam to all Porsche owners (ok, fine, expect for Cayenne drivers, whom I look upon in disdain - ). I also wave if they are close by. Seldom get a response in return. Must just be me. :-(
If I flash, I always get a wave, so now I wave. I wave to Boxsters too, but 90% of the time, the drivers are clueless. Probably 50% of the time I wave to 996ers they wave back, and most of the pre-996ers wave.
Too many Porsches around here to justify this bonding routine.... When I had rare cars it felt better to wave at someone with the same car...
I've tend to notice a lot of 993 drivers not being so friendly. Not sure why? Water vs. Air cooled? I'll wave, flash, smile at who ever does the same. Doesn't really matter what car.
Kirby, it seems like here in the Bay Area not that many are friendly. Too many p-cars for people to care? Anyhow, if I see you I'll be waving like a madman, 'cause I've seen lots of pics but never seen your car on the road.
driving a 993 I flash or wave, but aside from the odd 928 or 944 flashing back all I get are funny looks. Kirby, any problems passing smog with your SC'd 996? I wouldn't think it'd pass the visual inspection just curious Pete
It won't pass Smog yet, Evoms is supposed to be working on it. Worse case I just remove some of the SC. Not that diffucult to get it back to Stock. As for visual if Evoms gets Smog certification I think you get a sticker to pass visual or something like that. I have 2yrs left to enjoy it before Smog is needed.
Too common a car in Los Angeles. I never wave, and I never see anyone wave.
When I have time to wave I do! And usually get a wave and a smile back, mostly 911's though. Boxsters usually stare ahead..
I wave at all 911's, the majority of them wave back. Boxsters are not on the wave list. Too many. However, if a Boxster waves at me, I'll wave back. The flashing thing confuses people around here.
Driving it today in the Redwood Shores Area! if you see me! in fact I'll have my camera with me so if there are any other p-cars (or any nice cars for that matter) let me know...mini photoshoot! Going to be a nice day today!
Up here in Portland there aren't as many P/cars like down in the bay area where it seems every other car is a Boxter. I flash or wave and I get about an 80% return. There is one guy up here that has a Beck Spyder repli-car who has blinked on two occassions...just for fun I gave him a thumbs down...It was kind of funny to see the look on his face as I drove by.
I've flashed lights since '71 but most of the time the drivers ignore me or look at me like I'm crazy, even here in Iowa where Porsches are obviously not as common. A few acknowledge it... I don't bother flashing at other Cayennes as most are driven by soccer moms who would have NO clue...actually had a Cayenne Turbo flag my son down the other day when he was driving the 914 so they obviously knew what they were doing! I'm old enough to remember when I first drove my 914 the older stuck up 911 drivers wouldn't acknowledge it as it wasn't a REAL Porsche. I loved beating them in autocrosses.
I wave at everyone...often get funny looks from Boxster owners, but for the most part everyone waves back...
I try to wave at 996s and boxters. Boxter owners don't usually respond unless I am in my neighborhood. I never wave at Cayenne owners, a lot of time they are women and I don't want them to think I am making a move or something. 996s usually wave back if I catch their eye,
Too many P-Cars in San Diego to wave at all of them. You'd never have both hands on the wheel. I'll wave back if someone flashes or waves. Bruce
I think that the rule of thumb is that enthusiasts wave, and non-enthusiasts do not most of the time [can't speak for the California folks because you guys have cool cars frikken everywhere ]. The funny thing is that there is a woman who drives a White 964 who I see just about every day going the opposite direction of me. I wave every time I see the car, and she has never even looked over.... Kinda funny, but I'll wave at any pCar save the Cayenne [no offense intended for Cayenne owners, but most people driving those things are doin it for distinctly non-porsche loving reasons IMO]
I've tried to wave at other 996s, but around here (NYC/NJ area) they usually ignore me. I guess they're either too full of themselves or paranoid. If someone makes the first move, I'll respond, otherwise I feel like a jerk. In Germany it is accepted practice to wave or flash at another 911 driver, even though they are not exactly uncommon.
I flash all P-cars and get pretty good response from 996's and even better response from 993 and older models of 911. Most of the time a flash produces a wave however, as opposed to a return flash. I think it has a lot to do with the circumstances on the road at the time. Boxster replies are not so good, but I'll flash 'em anyways.
I used to wave or flash to all Pcars, but after one day a few weeks ago when 2 boxters and 2 peppers all looked at me like I'm crack, I have decided to only wave back. Also, flashing lights tend to scare non Pcars in the area sometimes, and these folks are usually bad enough drivers you don't want to upset them. 911's are 99% cordial (water or air)
I try to acknowledge all Porsches, but the 99xi guys and gals get a more enthusiastic wave.
I was driving to work this AM and saw a black 996 going the other way. Flashed and waved....no response at all.
Porsche Drivers are a$$holes!
I find that non-996's owners wave all the time to other 911's since it is clear that its a 911. But the 911 owners are hesitant to wave since it might be a boxster. Not to bash a boxster (my wife wants one), but maybe I just did... I think once a 911 gets sideways with a 996, they wave or acknowledge 99% of the time. I did the same when I had my 993, I think the sentiment is that there is a 911 connection (regardless of model year) but not with the brand in terms of Cayenne & Boxster & I would predict the cayman (although the cayman may earn 1 911'ers respect with the hp it packs and also it is coming in a hardtop first) Its a 911 thing only
