Anyone planning to put a 997 mkII engine in a 996? Would love to hear about it. Wondering how hard it would be to switch it.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

If you are looking for a 997GT3 engine with only 8000km, PM me
Anything can be done with the right amount of $$$. It's not if it can be done. It is, how much?

Gert, Can you put a 997 GT3 engine in a 996 Carrera? What about PSM and other electronics? TIA
I'm pretty sure that it can be done, especially when you have the gearbox to match. The main question is if it's all going to be worth the €$€$€$€$.
A GT3 engine is a lot more expensive then a 997S engine. Not quite sure it is worth it for the extra 30 horses

If It's a question of money we must say that the GT1 block engine is marvellous. Full reliability, dry sump, and a awesome 8.400 maximun revs. I'd like to get it mounted in my car if I'd had the money I don't like turbo engines but love GT3 Thanks Gert

What is the workaround for the fuel system?
a couple of people on this board have actually done it by their own statements. I will try to find the names

997 mkII. I know the mkI 997S x51 engine has been done but the new mkII engine is smaller and from the media available quite different.
MY apologies I read that too quickly, interpreted 997 in MkII

Can you point me to who has put a mkI 997S X51 engine into a 996? Very curious as this is the first time that I have hear of it in a 996. I have heard/seen caymans and 987 boxsters getting 997 motors but no 996 or 986. This would be cool.
When I talked to Roock in Atlanta about putting a 3.6 X51 from a 996 in my 3.4, he said it would not be much different to put a 997 engine in. You could talk to him about it.

Ruf USA had it on their site at one time. Though it was only for 2002-2004 996's.

I have. Fabian's guys upgraded my 996 from a 3.4 to a 3.6 Returnless fuel system from the 997 was a show stopper a year ago and kept me away from the 3.8 x51 motor. Maybe they figured it out.

he told me the same. about $5k more for a 3.8 than a 3.6, but the concept (retrofitting mechanical throttle onto 3.6 bottom) is the same
