Looking for a good independant mechanic in the LA area. I have a 2001 996 C2 that goes out of warranty next week and I want to have it looked over, so I can take it into Porsche if there are any issues BEFORE the waranty ends. Any referals would be greatly apreciated!!! Thanks.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Why not take it to the dealer you have a relationship with and tell your service manager that you want the car looked over before it goes out of warranty. That way you have it in writing and they know you car about the car. The dealer will not appreciate you coming to them with a list from an independent mechanic (signifies mistrust) nor will they like it if you hold your "list" back till AFTER they tell what is wrong and then you tell them "see, you missed this and my mechanic didn't". Not a good way to start a post-warranty relationship especially for those "goodwill" services you will demand in the future.
Depends on where you live. 993 guys like Callas Rennsport in Torrance, TRE in North Hollywood, Hergesheimers in Lake Forest. I've been to all three and have been very happy with the level of knowledge and service of each. Again, have not heard anything bad about any of these three on the 993 board. There is always Andial in Santa Ana also.
Although there are many excellent independent Porsche shops in the L.A. area, LYDell has the best suggestion, i.e. take it to a dealer given the state of the original warranty. Dealers DON"T like to provide "goodwill warranty" when the car has not been "seen" by them.
"Father of 5" thanks for the refereals. Everyone else, thanks all for the sugestions. I have a short timeline to have this checked and I don't nesisarilly trust the dealer to fix items, that he might in his judgement find "acceptable". An outside observer is always an asset to help point things out in my oppinion as he has no interest in the car, therefor unbiased. I don't distrust the dealer, I just don't beleive thaty have any reason to want to point things out that might be questionable just before the waranty ends!
Try McKenna in Norwalk if you choose a dealer. Otherwise, Fof3 has given you some good choices. You can also try Redline in Santa Monica.
