Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

OK - PPI by local dealer today on a car being sold by individual that bought the car, has window sticker, etc. Car is 'Meridian Metallic with graphite gray partial leather seats and a handfull of options: onboard computer, stereo. No litronics, no limited slip, etc.: Clutch pedal 'hard' Rear Main seal leaking Battery weak Plenum drains (???) clogged Spark plug 'tubes (???) Valve cover bolts I was not present since it was out of town and I have the checklist from the dealer and I will call the technician on Monday. I would have the repairs done locally. Wonder how much I can negotiate? He is asking $25.5K. Thoughts???

POST 2Original post

I'm not sure what colour meridian metallic is, or if it's a colour you really want, but with that grocery list it is my humble opinion you should be buying it for less than $20K. If it were me I'd away and find another one that's been better maintained and is a more popular colour (depending on your preference of course).

Agreed. There are a lot of these cars out there right now at ridiculously low prices. Don't waste your time with a potential problem car - find one that's been well maintained.

POST 4Original post

Battery replacement is cheap. Spark plug tubes are cheap and easy. I would guess the cam cover seal is what's leaking which can be expensive, the bolts are updated when the cover seal is replaced. Sounds like it needs a new clutch and throwout bearing which in addition to the RMS could be $2k. Did the dealer estimate repairs?

Wow 20K! - the color is not 'bad', it's kind of a gray/silver with grey interior. I'd actually prefer black over tan or blk/blk. Or white over tan.

POST 7Original post

Well, a clutch is about $3K installed, and I guess they could do the RMS while they're in there. You don't mention mileage and the condition of the tires. It all adds up. From you short description I didn't get the sense that the car was babied, maybe I'm wrong...I haven't seen the car of course. With the selection and prices out there you can afford to be picky.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Car has 33K miles and tires are 50%. Has the turbo wheel option. Car is in really nice shape overall.

I think you're a tad high with that estimate. I've been quoted $1600 at the dealer and 850 from a very reputable indie. If you add in a flywheel then it would be closer but still not $3K.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What else can be done with clutch R&R: RMS, clutch bleed - what else? Anything on the back of the engine that can be more easily accessed when the transmission is out? I don't intend to install any mods at all. mar

POST 11Original post

I would negotiate $4k off the price you would want to pay for this car if in normal mechanical condition.

Ah yes - that's right the $3K was Canadian and included the cost of a light weight flywheel. OK - my bid revision is revised given the low miles. 20K - 22K.
