POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, the 996 was tainted in my eyes.... After the last vandalism of her I just didn't have it in me to put any more effort into the car. So, she's gone. Traded in on the car pictured below. I think I'm better off back with my little rice rocket. I'll probably still visit here from time to time but wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone here for all the kind words in my times of need. The technical advice I received was also great. I have a few odds and ends to sell that I'll post here when I get round to it. Thanks again for being a great community.

POST 2Original post

Well, at least you traded it in for something understated and not flashy that is unlikely to get vandalized just like the Porsche did..... Good luck w/the new car...

POST 3Original post

Quotes source post: 5107363

haha...i was thinking the exact same thing. Is that an EVO? Sorry if I sound naive....good luck with your new rocket. I must say that I like it a lot, looks like a blast to drive. drive safe, j

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5107374

Yes, it's an Evo X.

POST 5Original post

Yep. It's obvious that the car, being so understated and subtle, will be overlooked by everyone, vandals included.

I have my eyes on an '07 Taurus with 33K for $9,500. The Evo's probably going to be a garage/track queen. Plus, if you've read any of my posts you know it wasn't the vandalism that caused me to sell the 996; the vandalism was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

POST 7Original post

Sorry the world of Porsche was not good to you. Best of luck with the new ride!!

POST 8Original post

UFO007, good luck with the Evo. It's a great car! Which model is it? MR? GSR?

POST 9Original post

congrats man, let us know how it drives compared to the 911. that is one fast motherfuqer i bet.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 5107540

The MR doesn't come with a manual tranny. Besides, I don't think the MR is even available yet. UFO007, congrats on the new EVO X! White makes that snout even more pronounced. Styling-wise, I still prefer the EVO IX. Have fun and enjoy!

GSR. Have to agree there. But, the X is much more refined and handles just as well so I can live with the looks. It's like driving a sporty SUV after getting out of the 996 .

POST 12Original post

It's too bad about the Porsche, but I understand your reasons for dropping her. Good luck with this one.

POST 13Original post

Good luck, Hope you have better luck with engine, vandals etc... Like it in white.

POST 15Original post

Great looking car. I don't know Mitsubishi very well...it looks like you own two of the same cars (newer/ older)?

POST 16Original post

Nice, fun car. Congrats. I'm sorry about the 996 though... I read your troubles with it.

POST 17Original post

Nice ride, enjoy. And the best part... it has a warranty (not that you will probably need it)

POST 18Original post

You'll be back. Lots of people have "resigned" from this forum only to come back a year later with another Porsche... -Charles

POST 19Original post

Judging by the slightly lower spoiler height on the new Evo, I'll be willing to buy one in four more generations when they finally decide to lose it entirely. They're GREAT cars but look so godawful stupid with what appears to be a box kite strapped to the trunklid. Sorry, UFO, don't mean to be so blunt, but the new Evo looks like a cross between the bad parts of any current Audi sedan and a WRX STi.

POST 20Original post

i don't understand how the Evo will take your troubles away, some jealous ***** will notice it and...... But all the best, I just can't get over the front?

POST 21Original post

You had some bad luck with your Porsche purchase and it only got worse. New car, complete coverage...but I do agree with the front, it somehow negates any performance gains to me. Good luck anyway with your new X.

I haven't hit the track yet, but did a little slalom test this morning. The feeling's a little vague and it seems to lag a little when responding to steering inputs. There is more body roll than the VIII but just as much traction. Really need to get the thing on the track to get a good feel for the AYC. I don't doubt it. However, I will not touch another 996 with a long pole. Now, a 997 is definitely on the books in the future but a little out of my price range right now. The regular Evo has a small spoiler, mine has the SSS package which, sadly, includes the larger wing. It's OK you don't like the looks, you don't have to drive it . The black car is an Evolution VIII and the white one an Evolution X. The Evolution VII, VIII & IX all shared the same body type but the X is an all new body and engine. The black one actually left me today so I'm back to just the white one .

have you seen some of the spoilers made for the 996 and their variants.. some of those do not look any better.

POST 24Original post

i was gotta ask u if u are going to keep both... EVO is a very capable car, enjoy it.

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 5110034

Sure, I couldn't agree more, especially the taco wing that everyone seems to love. I think too many people have themselves convinced that these ridiculous wings don't look silly just because they installed it on a Porsche.

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 5110467

Oh really, and what's wrong with the MK1 GT3 wing? I'm not convincing myself of anything except the fact that a correctly kitted 996/997 looks the dogs. At the end of the day to each there own....

awsome car man. how is the new engine compared to the good ol' 4G63? damn i wish we could get those in canada...soon baby...soon..

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5111242

The new 4B11 seems to be making more power on stock turbo than any of the previous models. American tuners are already over 100 WHP over stock and the car's been out a few scant weeks. However, the 4G63 was a proven bulletproof motor (we'll forget about the DSMs) so we'll see how it holds up over time. The '08 X is already in Canada. It's a little pricey though. GSR $41,498 MR $47,498 MR Premium $51,498

Not I say I. Yo quiero TACOS spread your wings and fly, love the look of 996's with almost any kind of wing. IMO it finishes to look, the body style/rear end was made for it. If anything I always thought the retractable looks a bit cheap when up.

POST 32Original post

UFO, I was hoping the vandals would not "break the camels back" and the 996 experience would turn around for you. Shame you could not get the enjoyment of your 996 with the brand new engine. Your new EVO does look good but IMO does not compare, inside or out, to a 996. It is a different category of car, not a fair comparison. I think that the 996 was not your thing from the get go (going by your past posts) you seemed disappointed in the performance of it from early on. Good luck to you, I do hope the EVO brings you car peace

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5112196

I disagree with the interior: the Evo is a much more comfortable car. The seats in the Evo X blow the 996 (non-sports seats) away and the interior on the X is somewhat pleasant. The interior of the 996 is severely lacking for a car that stickered over $80K and mine had more rattles than a tin can full of marbles. I'm disappointed in the performance of the new Evo too, but it's somewhat cheap to mod unlike the Porsche. Now, having said all that, I see myself in another Porsche some day (maybe in the not too distant future) but it will definitely be a 997S next time around. I don't hate the 996, I just hated mine.
