I am in the market for a 02 996, and I have a few questions about Targas vs C2s. I have driven a few varieties of 996 (C4 cab, GT3 and TT) but I have not yet sat/driven the Targa. Other than the two obvious points - the glass roof and the rear "hatch", what differences are there between a C2 Coupe and a Targa? The rear hatch appeals to me because it seems like a great way to get bags/golf clubs into the rear area. Am I totally off here? The huge glass moonroof is pretty cool too. The coupe will obviously more rigid, but how does the Targa compare here? For the current Targa owners, why did you pick it over a C2 Coupe? Any feedback would be appreciated!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The Targa has virtually the same rigidity as the coupe; both, of course, being more rigid than the cab. Although the Porsche cab is pretty good in that department, the difference is definitely noticeable in day to driving. The Targa is heavier than the coupe, and the weight is high in the roof, which would probably bother a serious track hound, but not the usual road user doing occasional track duty. I think the Targa is really awesome. I love being able to open and close the roof on the fly, and I like the glass roof effect when closed, also. For those that want a completely open top effect though, they should choose a cab. For me, I get tired of the buffeting and noise with total top down use.
And how is the rear hatch? Is it as useful for getting stuff into the car as it looks?
I've loved the targas too and I was scared off by a dealer when I was looking at a 993 targa because of the "constant" leaks. I have done some research here and haven't found that to be true, but can you or any targa owners comment on any issues you've had with the top mechanically. I am considering a targa for my next car as well. Thanks Mike
Zero problems with my 996 Targa, which, out of all seriousness, "may" go on the market soon . . .
I was able to put all four of my tires in my Targa once =, I even posted a picture sometime ago. Personally I love my Targa, With the Glass panel roof, it is perfection, the weight is only 140lbs more - Thus far - 3 years 41K miles and not a problem.
RJMDAD your car is HOT! Do you have any more pictures??
