I really like the new rear on the 997. One of the best features is the more aggressive 4-slat wing (as opposed to the 996's 7-slat). I wonder if anyone has seen a modification for the 996 that could add this? I also wonder whether or not it would look good. It's possible that the 4-slat with the narrower rear end on the 996 wouldn't have visual harmony. Thoughts?

Love the one you're with...
Buy a 997 instead of bastardizing your beautiful 996.
It's funny you guys mention that because that's how I feel about MY99+ guys 'upgrading' their front bumpers and headlights to the MY02+ look. Firstly, I don't think it looks that much better (indeed, and I know everyone who rides a MY02+ will kill me, I prefer the look of the rounder headlights and the more integrated driving/fog lights). Secondly, if you really want to make a change, the Aero Kit looks FANTASTIC and still retains your year-specific grace. Thirdly, as Ricky Ricardo said, "Lucy, you ain't foolin' nobody." It reminds me of those Bimmer guys who would put M3 side view mirrors on their 330s. People who know the car, know. Don't be a poseur. Love your car. It's awesome! But, life, being what it is, comes in all types. If you really love that look, I'm sure that someone somewhere will figure out how to give you 4 slats instead of 7.
Check out this, http://www.jacquemond.com/f996.htm They have some stuff for the 996 to look like the 997. I have no experience about the quality of the parts.
I would not equate this with facelifting my 99, I see it more like adding an aero kit. A subtle change that adds a more aggressive look to the vehicle. Pretty harsh with the 'bastardizing' comment. I recently added MY02 lightweight wheels to my car, saves a lot of weight and looks better. Should I have traded up to an '02 instead? I also added Litronics, much more modern looking + safer at night (by far). Same question applies. Some of you add aero kits to your cars after you have purchased them. I assume that you appreciate the look of the difference much more than you do the aerodynamics (not much chance you get to see much of that anyway on-road). That's the same question I posed regarding the slats. Have you seen them, do they look good? The Jacquemond pic looks great to me (thanks Niclas), my guess is if someone pulls the trigger (and its inexpensive enough) you'll start seeing lots of these on the road...
FYI...the slats on your 996 are different than the 997 for a REASON. They (PAG) don't just put them there for fun and looks......they serve a functional purpose. Take a closer look between the two (996 and 997) and you will see a very different airflow. And yes, it is bastardizing it. See the official definition. Webster: something that is spurious, irregular, inferior, or of questionable origin.
I didn't mean the 'meaning' behind the word, I meant the 'attitude' behind the word... big difference... but good point on the functionality. May cause problems...
Edward - agree completely...
