Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys, this is obviously not a porsche topic - but since we can all afford such nice cars I think we are all in positions to help out a bit financially with the poor victims of the Hurricane. I think as a "chat" community lets all brainstorm, pool some $$$ and donate it to the relief effort under RENNLIST. I have become a CNN junkie over the last couple days and my heart really goes out to the victims. Never mind the hoodlums, their time will come, I see families starving, dying, crying for help and I think its our duty to do something. Any suggestions??? I say we open an account - all transfer in what we can, have someone administer it and forward it to the relief victims through some channel??? Lets help out, I know we can all give something.

POST 2Original post

You've got your heart in the right place. What you propose will take allot of work that is already being done by some very good relief agencies. I'm sure many of us in the Rennlist community are helping. I am donating to the American Red Cross as I have done in the past for these disasters.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

True now that I think of it. Maybe everyone can list what they are doing for the victims so that other members can read it and perhaps do something similar. Thanks everyone. I have already donated $5K to the American Red Cross and am looking to friends and family to match me.

POST 4Original post

I only donate goods and time. Red Cross is suppose to call me back in regard to sending me down there. Seems odd it will take them couple of days to get back with me but hey....

POST 5Original post

Here's a link to a post I put on FunCars for what we're doing.... http://www.funcarsonline.com/ubbthre.../page/0#111792 If anyone would like to donate to the family we're hosting, let me know.

POST 6Original post

donated on the red cross website.....it is quick and painless......those guys need help.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Scott, Read the link you provided and must say the world needs more people like you. What you and your family have done for that family can not be put into words. I think everyone should click on that link and read it. It is inspiring, touching and my hat is off to you and your family. I know your not doing it to be a "hero" but thats what you will be known as. I would do the same without hesitation, especially after reading the link, if I had the opportunity. But being up in Toronto, Canada does not really give me that option - so $$$ it will have to be. I just hope it is used as efficiently as possible.

POST 8Original post

Thanks for the kind words. These people are in such bad shape. It's so hard to watch. I do encourage you guys to do what you can even if it's tiny like donating some older clothes or sending a small donation. The news embarrasses a lot of the good people from LA who have left. Those criminals and the coverage of them is causing some people to hesitate to help (and understandably so), but when meeting the people I've met, they're just like you and I. They just had a VERY bad break in life. "There before the grace of God go I..." Especially being in Houston, we can relate. The dad owned 2 car stereo shops in New Orleans. The poor guy knows they're both gone. And even if they're not, they're likely looted, and even if they're not, who is gonna buy from him any time soon? So he's already job hunting here in Houston and will likely remain here. I know there are a TON of people out there like him. My heart goes out to them... man... how quickly your life can change.

POST 9Original post

I've already donated to the Red Cross, although I am a bit suspect with how they will spend the money. I remember hearing about some of the executives at Red Cross and how outrageous their salaries were. Oh well, I just hope for the best. What kills me is the fact that everyone knew something like this would happen eventually, and yet they never dealt with it (fortifying levees, better pumps, power, etc). It would have cost a fraction of what it is going to cost now to rebuild.

POST 10Original post

Donation was made today to American Red Cross. Seems to me the vice-president of U.S. needs to be down there getting everyone moving in the same direction. He should have the power to get all of the 28 different agencies moving together. Just my 2 cents. (btw: donation was larger than that)

POST 12Original post

I know there are doubts about how wisely any agency to include the American Red Cross spends our donations, but they have come to the assistance of many of our soldier at home and abroad. I will always remember going into the AMC office in Bosnia and seeing a bright eyed American willing to help anyone entering their doors. It's a no brainer for me when it comes to where I send my money.

POST 13Original post

U.S.O. was always a good place to go, when I was in the Navy. They need support also.

POST 14Original post

I work for a grocery company and the employees at the corporate headquarters collected almost $26K in two days to buy water. The company is also donating water and supplying some trucks to get it down there.
