so ive been trying to diagnose this howling noise from the fuel cap area. It sounds like someone is blowing on top of a coke bottle. i just realized there is a tiny rubber hole inside the gas cap access panel on the right. it sucks air into it and its making a howling noise that is very loud and annoying. anyone know how to fix it? it stops when i plug my finger over the end... im pretty sure its a vent tube for something...

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Pic? There is a rubber water drain hole, but that is at the bottom, not the right.
i will post a picture shortly
its right behind the door....
dont mind my dusty car, it clings to the black paint...
Update: i looked up the part # on the clip in the picture and it lead me to the vent line for the carbon canister... any ideas?
I don't have any ideas. When I get back to my car I'll try looking.
This doesn't match my '99. Maybe someone with a MkII?
Update: I removed the carbon control valve and smacked it around the old fashion way and the noise is gone for now....
BTW: the tube lead to the carbon control valve...
