what is the best way to remove oxidized paint from a surface before waxing it... I was thinking of taking the car into the local detail shop to have it polished with a machine and special compound... does this take off oxidized paint? thx Peter

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It should. If your paint is heavily oxidized, your best bet is to let a pro do it. You might try a mild cleaner or cleaner wax applied by hand and see if you can do it yourself.
do you have any pics of the surface, Peter? On a scale of 1 to 10 how bad is the oxidation? Its not real hard to do it yourself...but a pro shop should be able to bring it back up for you...they have all the equipment.
Hey Jim, I don't have any pics... oxidation is not that bad... but is definitely more "hazy" than brand new paint... I think I'll have the pro's finish it off as I would like it done properly. thx for your help everyone. ~P.
hey peter, try taking the oxidation off with a clay bar. the oxidation may just be built up grime. it's less invasive as abrasive polishes, really easy to do and you can't mess up. just takes time and elbow grease. it helped make my '99s paint real smooth and brought back some lustre. finished off with rejex. i agree w/ lee, take it to a pro if it does need polishing.
Carlos, this is for my other non-P car... darker paint... I did clay it last year and it definitely does make a difference, especially when applying wax afterwards... its like your waxing a brand new surface! I think I'm going to take it in for a professional polish. thx for the advice guys. Peter
