Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Porsche mulls factories in Asia, US: chief (AFP) 13 hours ago BERLIN Iconic Porsche 911 sportscars could in the future be produced in factories in Asia or the United States, the German firm's chief executive said on Sunday. "This year, we are going to discuss whether to start assembly in Asia or North America," Matthias Mueller told Focus magazine. "The main thing is that the car has 'Engineered by Porsche' on it. Where it is produced is no longer so important," he added. Currently, the company manufactures its cars in factories in Leipzig, in eastern Germany and Stuttgart, in the west. Porsche saw a strong gain in sales in 2010. Some 95,000 cars were delivered to customers last year, an increase of 25 percent.

POST 2Original post

Many of other German manufacturers already have factories overseas. Even some with local content specifically for that local market. Most are not imported, but if they are will be stated quite clearly whether it's a 'Built Up' (built in Germany and shipped) or Complete Knock Down (where the vehicle will be assembled on that location. In this case some content of the vehicle will be sourced locally). There will also be a difference in price (and prestige) between the two.

Wow.....Assembled in China with parts manufactured in Germany. I guess nothing is sacred.

POST 4Original post

Finally, I can afford a GT3 that's made in China

POST 5Original post

Do you think we'll be able to buy cheap, replica GT3's pretty soon? They'll all have the same VIN.

You'll be able to tell where it was assembled from its VIN. Just like BMW, Mercs etc.

POST 7Original post

POST 8Original post

Didn't VW just open a plant in the US..........hey, a few tooling changes and another production line, and presto, chango, the new 911..........

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

How long before the Chinese start to sneak in cheaper parts without advising Porsche and pocketing the difference. Will we find out these kind of issues while walzting around a track at 150Mph? After reading a book called "Poorly made in China" i am suspicious of anything coming from there even if made under licence from a quality brandname!!! Pete

Now that I think about it, they might be heavier due to the lead in the paint!
