I was applying for a new life insurance policy today and one unusual topic came up. Clerk: Do you have a high performance car? Me: euh, what do you define as a high performance car? Clerk: Something like a Porsche or a Corvette. Me: Oh, then yes. (Can't make it up, they also insure our cars) I should have had her go through the full list of possible cars, brands, ask clarification on models, etc. by curiosity. An old 996 from 2003, just a C2. Nothing fancy. I wonder if this will add to the risk factor... At least I am not "racing" it. FM

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Don't worry. It's just some desk jockeys way of coming up with different ways to identify people with more money than the average then take as much of your money as they can. Nothing new.
That's too funny! Ironically our cars are built like tanks and the chances of walking away from a crash are much better in our cars than most anything out there! Oh well thats typical insurance nonsense for you! Pete
When I was shopping for new house insurance, one of the questions Do you own firearms? I replied yes, and they wanted to know what they were, I said they are all registered with the Canadian Firearms Center, and you don't need to know what I own. They said yes they do, so I gave them a couple of names of the guns, and he said your not allowed to own those, I said I have licenses for them. He also mentioned they need to know just in case someone gets shot accidently, My reply, it wouldn't be by accident. But getting back on subject, some insurance companies won't even insure Sport cars.
Is my 914 a "high performance" car? It has 75 HP, like a Prius - but no electric assist and no sudden acceleration.
My Porsche 914 1.7 had 69hp in California trim! Whow!!
I wasn't asked that from metlife. I have all my other ins. with someone else.
One could argu that when used correctly the high perfomance may also help avoid an accident as well.
My insurance would let me insure any Porsche, however they noted that Vipers would require special approval. Our insurance companies should be thankful that we have chosen a car that's built well.
I have 2 Porsche's insured with Geico no questions asked and very reasonable.
when switched my insurance from my GTO to my 996, my car insurance actually went down by a few bucks. That was a nice surprise.
I have to add my $.02 to this. My insurance agent is a buddy of mine and when I bought my 1999 996 I had estimated in my mind what the insurance was going to cost me. When he called me laughing I thought this wasn't going to be good. He then said the annual premium on my Porsche was 46% of the premium on my wife's "High Peformance" Hummer H3. He couldn't stop laughing that the H3 was High Performance but the Porsche was considered a normal car. Just had to share.
Samething here my wifes super safe and slow Volvo s40 is more expensive to insure than my saab and my 996.
As "high performance" is a very subjective term, I'd have simply answered "no".
