Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The key in my car got stuck one morning last week so when I removed it I knew I had an ignition switch problem. I immediately got on the phone and started looking for the Audi/VW part locally as I knew it would be cheaper. But everyone had to order it and it would cost $40 so I went the online route. Got it for about $15 plus shipping. The process was pretty easy but requires you hanging upside-down under the dashboard and squeezing your hands into tight places. I also wore a headlamp so I wouldn't have to hold the light. Aside from removing the vent tubing under the dash, getting access to the switch is pretty easy. Took me maybe 10 minutes to do it all. Wish everything was this easy! It's so nice now to not have to click my key back to the center position just to get my A/C working again. Hopefully all of this recent maintenance should be it for a while!!!

Good stuff! On a similar note my headlight switch started going south, order one from suncoast and the entire week I waited, I had to fight my switch to get the light to come on. New switch arrives and now the old switch works perfectly

POST 3Original post

dealer would have charged you $150-300... You DA MAN !

POST 4Original post

Good job, I did mine a few weeks back as well. Surprisingly simple aside from the upside down part. Wish I had a headlamp that day as mag-lites dont taste very good.

I did the light switch about two months ago. I wish they would have gone bad at the same time to save me some of the effort. But in both cases each repair was pretty easy. Damn dealers trying to rip us off... Yeah the headlamp absolutely helped make the job a little easier. Oh and chipping the paint was a bit of a hassle too. I still can't get used to how easy the effort is when turning the key now. I guess this switch must have been going bad for a while.

POST 6Original post

I did this also not long ago, I actually ordered 2 switches since they were so cheap just in case it happens again.

POST 7Original post

Mine went at the track (W. Glenn)..... luckily I brought the switch along... that would not have been fun.... $15 switch would've turned into $600 easily.
