Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry if this has been addressed, I tried a search but didn't find what I was looking for. Anyway, I'm getting a creaking noise from the right front lower control arm. I'm thinking this is a ball joint going south. If so, how hard is this to replace, can I do just the ball joint or do I have to change out the entire arm? Am going to get it in the air this weekend so would really appreciate some info on this.

POST 2Original post

The arm must be replaced. The proper ball joint removal tool makes the job much easier.

POST 3Original post

I just got the parts in and I'm waiting for the tool to come in. I'll let you know how difficult it was once I get done. It doesn't look too bad, but things like that can be deceiving so I'm reserving judgment.

Did you order from Sunset and do you mind sharing cost? Thanks Doug, darn, was hoping for just the joint.

POST 5Original post

Yes, I did order from Sunset. It was a little under $300 for each side. The tool I'm picking up for ~$20 from Napa...which is nice in comparison to the list price at the dealer of $200.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Are you getting the fork type separator or something more exotic like the one Doug has pictured above?

Almost half the price at Harbor Freight: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=99849
