Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

a 2002 C2 6speed Cab I am looking at. i got this service info. I wanted to know about the 60k service as it's got 63k on it. it was a lease but a lease for it's second life (second owner, who took over about 20k miles)

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hmm /end pursuit of that 996 I was thinking something along that line.

POST 4Original post

I would think it has more to do with the age of the service work vs. that they are hiding something, but would definitely want some clarification around it. I.e. their system purges work after 5 years, etc..again, would definitely have more questions that answers.

POST 5Original post

According to the service writer at our local dealer (great guy), two issues are going on regarding record history: 1) Porsche, for liability reasons, mandates the dealer keep records for a period of years (5 or 7 years, the exact number escapes me at present). After this time period, it is up to the dealer at that point whether they wish to keep the records or not. 2) When Porsche corporate switched to computerized filekeeping, many of the old paper records were grandfathered in, while even more were not. If it was not mandated and the dealer had no interest in physical archiving...into the trash they went.

POST 6Original post

I don't think anything is purposely hidden. It has to due with age of the record and basic clean-up at the dealership. Call around and ask.

POST 8Original post

Or perhaps the dealer just dumps records after 5 years. Digital storage is not cheap. Is the dealer to hold records in perpetuity? A computer system upgrade could also account for the dump. And what of it? The car seems to have been dealer serviced extensively - usually we think of this as a plus. You need to have a thorough PPI done anyway... does the record of an oil change or a sensor replacement from 2004 really mean that much? Complete records are nice, but not a game changer for me if the car's PPI and CARFAX back up my own inspection and impressions.
