Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Those of you who are relying on your dealership's electronic records for your car's maintenance history: you may want to rethink your strategy. I purchased my CPO Boxster from one of the two San Diego Porsche dealerships. Since they included regular services and discounts on major maintenance, I had several oil changes and one of the major-interval services performed there. Fast-forward to Q3 last year. I called said dealership, which is now operating under a different name. Apparently, even though the same computers are sitting in the same places, and the folks working in the service bays are the same guys, all customer records for the "old" dealership no longer exist. I spoke at length to someone unaffiliated with this dealership, and I heard unsubstantiated stories of resprayed cars being sold as CPO and other misdeeds that made the elimination of records advantagous to the rechristened dealership. As indicated in the previous paragraph, I have absolutely no evidence to substantiate that they did anything wrong. However, the computerized service records for everything performed by Porsche on my Boxster are gone, as well as records of prep work done on my car when it was prepared for sale at said dealership, which left a sizeable gap in my service history when I was negotiating the price for my car.
