On the far left is my 928. Behind is a 993 owned by a very well known 928 Rennlister Red 996? I have no idea Red 928, my neighbor. Standing back looking at these cars all day, the 996 and 928 look like a design progression. The 993 looks out of place, like an "older" design (sorry mystery 993 owner) Maybe it's just me. Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I would place the 928 and 996 in the same category -- modern design improvements over their predecessors. I'll bet you're as puzzled as I am why the 928 was unable to supplant the 911 as it was intended to do. It was superior in every important aspect, wasn't it? And why are newer 993 resale values comparable to the 1999 & 2000 996's? There's no accounting for bad taste is the best answer I can think of. P.S. Are you sure that red car is a 996? It looks like a Boxster to me.
100% sure.
I love the 928s as well as the 996s. I'm tired of people bagging on them. I think both cars were just way ahead of their time. People were not ready for them yet. I think the late MY manual 928GTS in good shape have gone up in value recently haven't they? Whatever...
