I went round a sharp bend, virtually a left turn, in 3rd, should have been in 2nd. Tried to pick up revs but failed and stalled engine. Stopped car, fired up, put gear lever into 1st but car just sat there, engine running, lifted off clutch and car just sat there and didnt stall. Same thing whichever gear I selected and although the gear lever felt like it was engaging, obviously it was not. So I just sat there feeling stupid and phoned for recovery. Car on its way to dealership who promise to phone me when they know the problem. Anyone any idea what they will diagnose? Any suggestions gratefully received.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

same thing happened to me.. failed tranny.. i noticed you are in the UK.. do you still have a warranty? if not, unfortunately, it'll prolly be a $10,000euro job
Thanks Bob That makes me feel much better Actually I do have extended warranty but I was hoping this was going to be a linkage or some other quick fix. How is wonderful Seattle - a boat trip out to the islands was just such a highlight of a tour through the Northwest and the Canadian Rockies. Almost made me feel like emigrating. Correct that... it did make me feel like emigrating.
can't complain, been prime driving weather lately for the 996 cab.. ironically it's rained less here than in palm desert since the beginning of this year.. thank god for your extended warranty.. you are very lucky.. my replacement tranny was $9000, would have been $14000 if I didn't have a core, luckily the tab was picked up by the porsche dealer's insurancde company, because they installed my third engine improperly.. (nothing beats driving home after spending $13,000 to have ANOTHER engine replaced and having the tranny go out on you.. <g>) but of course that's my fault, because i bought the car from a ford dealership according to many people here <g>
Why? Do people think that the Ford dealer screwed with the car?
please don't start that again...
mundman, see previous threads started by me.. no need to beat an old decaying dead horse <g>
sounds like you broke the input shaft
Perhaps you've failed part of the shift linkage / cable control. Don't panic yet.
fred: Half Moon Bay?
Hi, I've broken my shift linkage twice. It sounds exactly like you described. Cheers.
A long way from Half Moon Bay. Punkin' Chuckin' in the Pumpkin Capital Home of the Aludium Q36 Pumpkin Modulator Now there is a WMD! Cheers,
Thanks guys. The dealer is TOO BUSY to get the car into the workshop till after Easter!!!!!!!!!! His first thought was it needs a new clutch (not covered by warranty - 1000!). I think he thinks I was born yesterday. My first thought was linkage. But they will probably charge Porsche for a complete new gearbox and transmission!!!
