So I painted the wheels and spent a lot of time doing so. I like them, my wife doesn't soooooo.....poll time. AND THE WHEELS ARE STICKY WHITE FROM TAPE GLUE, I'M NOT GOING TO WASH THEM FOR A WEEK TO MAKE SURE THE PAINT IS HARD. I'll put more details in. It's been a long day so maybe today, maybe tomorrow.... Before: And after:

I like it ok. I thought it looked good before too.
Your work looks good from what the pictures can show - what's the paint color? A drop would do you good, as well as ditching the pumpkins. Painting the calipers wouldn't hurt either.
no good sorry
Yes, I'd love to put some PSS9's on. Maybe next year. Oh, and graphite, I figure it beats chipped and dinged silver.
nice looking work, really nice.... how did you do it? BTW - I think YOU are the one that needs to like it. For me it's just OK, but had i done the work and it looked that good I would be like "I love em!" since you know how, you can always redo them in a year... give it time, see how they hold up and if they grow on your wife or if you change your mind.... Looks sunny at least - hell its like monsoon season in Seattle
I like them..... I'm screwed since the poll is in favor of my wife. Thanks fellas. And for tips on doing this......sand sand sand sand sand.
They'd probably look a lot better if you tires were cleaner/blacker. It's a visual distraction...
I think they'd look better if the car was dropped.
I like! And close to the right shade I was looking for to go with my Arctic Silver cab. The last time wheel color came up someone mentioned sticking with the stock colors, but aren't the only stock colors silver and black? I'm wondering if a different wheel color would punch up the AS a little. I think black is too much of a contrast with the AS, but a color a shade lighter for me - gunmetal maybe... Anyway, one vote for the positive column... Rudy
I like it, too! And I'm not normally a fan of black wheels. But the graphite complements the hint of violet in your car. Drop it and it would be smokin' hot -- seriously! Don't despair, Ed -- good job!
This is the only picture that really captures the effect -- looks great!

there is a shiny thing in the sky today.. its bright and seems to be giving off some sort of heat?? BUT my scales are cracking and I feel all dry ? ? ? ?
I really like dark wheels. I almost bought some . . . who knows, I still might.

went to the Exotics C&C this morning and they let me park my poor little old Porsche in with the big boys !! Plenty of other Porshce, Ferrari's Lambos Lotus and other models... Even a famous singer showed up (who I got to meet, AND drive up the freeway beside - him in a really awsome Lambo!) I have a party tonight so I have to wash the kids..... thank goodness its warmer today cuz the hose only shoots cold water
Fail....and clean up the tires...
Quotes source post: 6554352
It says in his post that he didn't wash the tires since he's waiting for the paint to fully harden before introducing moisture. Hooked on phonics helps, FYI.
Well, since you asked. Dont like em.. nope... sorry
Well I went and cleaned up the wheels with a little armor all and a towel. (That really sucked BTW) Here's a few more photos to flip the nay-sayers.
Oh and I appreciate all the opinions, the ones that like it a little more, than the jerk-offs that don't.....

Exactly how I feel.
Ed, it looks gorgeous. It took a little while to grow on me (I looked last night and thought about it, but didn't say anything)....now, I absolutely love it. I miss my Vesuvio car. That is such a stunning color. The wheels match perfect. I always thought about getting black wheels for mine. I had a more than a few negative comments (here) about the black wheels on my current (Iris Blue) 996. It has become my favorite mod, that I have ever done to a car. You only have to make one person happy when it comes to your car (ok, maybe two)...my wife loves your new wheel color also. Here is your car's twin, with polished wheels. Your wheels look way better. My blue car is pictured, before the black wheels. My vesuvio car had a stock suspension. The iris blue car is dropped with PSS9s.
Ed, if it looks good for you, then it's good enough. The metallic car and metallic wheels is a nice idea. Drop it like it's hot!

I'd rather do it fo'reals! Yes but the wheels were really beat up especially after the last blowout where I hit a rock that pinched the tire to the side wall and took a fairly good gouge into the wheel edge. The main reason for this paint job was to get rid of the dings, scratches, and horrible curb rash that was on the wheels. I'm not one for doing something for nothing. There was a reason behind the whole project..... Yeah I remember your oldie. It was neat seeing it on here, I've only seen one other besides yours and it was on a flat bed heading to Phoenix. I like your blue with black wheels! I really like that it's lowered the way it is and it looks more utility than bling when they\ wheels are black! I want to drop it! But baby steps: 1. sways 2. cage 3. suspension....
I like it, but eventhough you went a little off-black, I think it's still a little too dark for your dark colored car. It would have been perfect for my car (Seal Grey). You should apply a thin pinstripe around the rim/edges, that should help.
better pics and cleaned up tires I give it a "thumbs up" !! Good job representing it better this round!!

Oh I didn't realize and can't believe he painted the wheels without removing the tires. Double fail!

Who was the singer? For sure the graphite makes the body color pop. I liked the stock wheel color, but I don't dislike the graphite either.
I like em. Would be much better if your car was a lighter color like silver ,white, yellow etc. -Manil
I am one of the jerk-offs that does not like the graphite wheels. The color is not right for your car. The wheels are now almost invisible.
I think they look great. What was the process you used to pain them and is that graphite the same color that is on the Titanium Cayenne wheels?
I think it's hard to judge on your car in a photograph, I'm sure they look better in person but they seem to wash each other out in a picture. Maybe it's my play-skool design sense, but I feel like darker colors look better with brighter wheels, and lighter colors with darker wheels, at least in pictures. Must have been a fun project though, great looking paintwork!
Thanks guys, I'm his wife and knew he was like his dad always trying to "do it yourselfer". Somethings you should just leave to the professionals!
BetterHalf, Welcome to Rennlist. While your husband may not have good taste in wheel color (LOL) he has great taste in women.
<Ed thinks> <then thinks some more> wait I got it WELCOME to RENNLIST !!
Your car is a rather unique color, and will look terrific with the right wheel color combination. Unfortunately dark metallic grey or Graphite is not one of them, it's too close to the color of your car and either needs to offer more or less contrast to look good. Your cars screams, "I'm an early '99". Loose the pumpkins, they look really bad with your color too. The silver wheels looked really good. A polished rim wheel may look good with a gloss black center too as long as it was thin spoked without a lot of area. You asked, lol

ALL RIGHT GUYS......she's taken. FWIW I have gotten compliments on the wheels. There was the guy in the KIA, the guy in the Geo Metro..... No seriously, the photos are deceiving....
