Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Need your help on this one. I never sold a car to a private party through an ad. This person from Arizona wants my 2001 996 tip. I placed the ad at $37,500. She offered me $32K in cash. KBB trade-in value in excellent condition is $32,150, private-party value = $37,235, and retail value = $42,630. Dealer offered me $26K on a trade-in value for a 08 997 C4. I'm thinking about counter-offering at $34K. Am I being greedy here? Even though it's a 2001, the plus is the low mileage. What price range are 01 996 being sold these days? Any suggestion is appreciated.

POST 2Original post

The right price is the one that the buyer is willing to pay. A counter offer seems the way to go.

POST 3Original post

it's all part of the process. She is low-balling you to see what she can do. If you say yes immediately, she won't feel like she got a great deal. I'd try to meet somewhere in between. Countering $34k would not be unreasonable. Good luck!

POST 4Original post

counter... close the deal with half way price. fluff her up... be a salesman!!!

POST 5Original post

If she thinks the dealer will give you 32k she figures you will take that. Counter!

POST 6Original post

Counter it and find a place somewhere in the middle. Stick to your guns!!! You'll get your price.

POST 7Original post

That's a really low-balled offer. Counter that for sure.

POST 8Original post

Definitely counter. Look on Autrader and Cars.com for comps.

POST 9Original post

counter offer, if you want $34, tell her she can have it for $35.5 she will come up a little then counter again at $34. hopefully she is not on this forum either...

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I heard from someone that 996 values have gone up due to an increasing demand. Is that right? In the past few days, I received 3 offers at the full advertised price. $36K for 01 996 coupe black/black tip, and it is very close to the KBB Private Party Value. Is that the going value for our 996? I saw that many 996 for 01 - 03 were price at close to retail values rather than private-party value.

Whoo-hoo! about time baby! I was figuring that they would stabilize sometime soon, as there wasn't much further let for them to drop on the bottom end.
