Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Tempting, I agree, but the thought of being stranded keeps me from doing it. And a can of Fix-a-flat doesn't inspire much confidence. On the other hand, I would like the extra trunk space. Geert
weighs 40 lbs with the tool kit! that is quite a reduction, it you don't mind being stranded.
Curious to know.............how much additional performance are we talking about ? Cheers and safe driving.
Not a lot, but that's were it starts before you know it, your getting new seats to save 30 pounds a side, light weight battery, super cups to get rid of the exhaust, new rims, new front hood and rear hood. And before you know it you've lost 300 pounds. Than your next!!!
I usually take it out when I'm at the track, but otherwise I leave it in. I think my driving skills have a way to go before weight reduction is an issue.
I only remove at autocross...Don't think you will be much faster on the street without it!!!
You'd probably have to take it out as part of an overall plan for weight reduction. As has already been pointed out, the weight savings by itself is not substantial. Also, it lightens the front end, not the first place you want to lighten IMHO since it can make understeer worse. For street driving, the advantage it offers if you get a flat outweights the advantage of weight saving without it. As far as safety, the tire is oriented horizontally on the C4S, so one can suppose it can act as part of the collision protection. On the C2, it's upright, so I don't think it does much.
Its standard equip on gt3 'spare tire delete' . A can of porsche fix a flat.
may be removing just the spare tire will make the car even more rear-heavy-weight car...so cornering might be even more difficult... harris
