Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

HI all. I am planning on starting to do some light mech work on my 996 but I don't have a jack or any stands yet. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what kind of jacks or stands I should get along with where I should get them? ALso, are there specific specs that I should be looking for? Thanks in advance. PS. Dumb question..How do I get those smiles on my post? When I drag one here, it takes me to a whole page of them. Is my denseness preventing any intelligence once again?

Costco has an aluminum floor jack in our local store , right now.

I did the Costco aluminum racing jack and had to return it because it kept leaking oil. BEWARE! I replaced it with the Sears aluminum jack which is much better in quality. It's a little heavier than the Costco jack, but it also has a higher weight capacity. Plus, the Sears jack was about $80 cheaper in price. I use the Sears jack all the time and haven't had any problems whatsoever. Yee Haw

I prefer the drive-up ramps. That is, unless you need to remove the wheels...

POST 8Original post

The flat top stands Kim provided a like for are excellent for the 996 also, as the lift points are flat like on the 993. Pricey but a great product.

POST 9Original post

harbor freight sells a great lightweight aluminum racing jack. careful though there is a large one and a small one. get the large one cause the other one is too small to work with and isnt built as tough. pretty cheap too

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post
