Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Going to be building a dedicated track/race car out of a 996 03 model. Please let me know if you interested in any interior parts and possibly the front nose. I'll also post pics of the project as it progresses..thanks!

POST 2Original post

How much for the batwing and the lower console shelf?

Just put a fair offer on what parts you want and I'll reserve it for you. You can PM me with the info or put it here. Please, no low ball offers. Just want fair prices to fair fellow RL's. I cut my teeth on the track with a 996, so I can't wait for it to be finished! Should have the parts out within 3 weeks.

Keeping the wheels for rain tires.

POST 6Original post

ZB, Sounds like a fun project. I built a pretty successful 996 race car a few years ago. I think it still holds PCA track records at Daytona, Road America and Mid-America. Maybe VIR too. I'm not sure about that. Here are some details. http://www.jimbreakey.com/welcome.html I would never claim to be an expert but feel free to tap into my vast database of mistakes if you think I can help. Jim

Wow, thanks Jim...that's extremely encouraging. Someone got a good deal on that car as well. Please feel free to educate me on anything I should keep a watch for. Autometrics is doing my build and has a great reputation anywhere you ask. Plus the family is a joy to work with and I just feel at home with them. Thanks!!

POST 8Original post

Congrats Roger. I know you were talking about doing this. Keep me posted on the progress. I am in need of a couple of items. Looking for the emergency brake cover that attaches to the center console. Mine is cracked and I have not gotten around to replacing it. C.

How about I offer everything at 50% of the new price? You guys take care of the shipping however you...if you get an item and don't like it, send it back and I'll refund the money. Not trying to get rich here, just recoup some costs. But, I do want everyone happy with the purchase.

Hey Chad! Thanks! It's yours if you want it. Hope to see you soon! Again, your car is awesome....no sunroof! (want mine? )

POST 11Original post

You are in very good hands. I've spoken to and exchanged emails with Adam and Gordon a few times in the past. Obviously they have a ton of experience building Grand Am Cup/Koni Challange 996s. And, like you said, they seem like great guys. Have fun and feel free to ask me anything. I love those cars. Jim

+1 The Autometrics guys built out my '87 and did a great job. Good luck!

POST 16Original post

Wow, talk about timing. We are on the same track. I am starting the same with a 03 996. And its black. This should be interesting ( :

POST 17Original post

Just a dumb question but would it not be cheaper to buy a car already set up for racing (996 Cup) and sell the street car? I dont know how far you are planing to go with it and if you are going to still drive it on the street or not...

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5159402

Yeah! I just saw your post. This will be great. It's definitely an excellent way to go to get the car you want.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5159490

Actually, a good question. I could buy a cup for around the same price (99-01), but will end up spending another 30 to 50 to get the car right unless I get extremely lucky. I know personally of a guy who just went through this. Also, unless you buy an 03 to 05, you'll be missing a great deal of updates. The newer years cost a good bit more as well. Lastly, I'm not really at the level of driving experience for the cup as of yet. Yeah, I'm used to the HP with the RS, but the 996 will offer decent power with momentum driving that will be great experience and pay dividends when I do move to a cup. I think it's a good move for me at this time. Just more ups than there are downs.

POST 20Original post

Roger, Congrats! I was like you, as soon as I 'thought' about it, spending the money came really quick. Tell those guys to get a move on it and come oun out for the Road Atlanta race. They have 3 1 1/2 weeks. Mark.
