OK, I just know that many of you were concernrd if I had made it to Dallas of not, so I just wanted to let you know wthat I made it save and sound. I left Charlotte Thurday and drove most of the day through moderate to heavy rain in GA, AL, & MS. Friday was better, overcast and a light mist most of the way. I arrived in Texas at 12:44 PM on Friday and got to my office in Dallas at 3:30 to get the packet for my apartment. The car handled the trip well and I really enjoyed the trip, despite the rain. I got a nice surprise when I got to the apartment complex. They told me that the computer arrived on Friday morning. I had ordered it from Dell on Tuesday and they indiacted that it would arrive on Monday. I thought I would be "off line" for a couple more days. I got the Dell XPS One, which is an "all in one" computer and I have to say it is pretty neat. So y'all can sleep easier tonight, because you no longer have to worry about me traveling to Dallae.

POST 2Original post

Nice m8, goodluck with the new job! Sweet shipping time for that DELL, here in Sweden we need to wait at least 2 weeks for a DELL computer =/

POST 3Original post

Glad you made it safe and sound Tim! Sweet timing on the pc, the pictureless newbies don't stand a chance!

POST 4Original post

Congrats Tim, how could you stay away from this site ....it wouldn't function without you. Glad your trip from Charlotte went well.

POST 5Original post

Glad that you made it safe and sound. Any speeding tickets? I figured you'd be back here as soon as you fired up the new computer.... welcome back. You've missed a barrel load of fun.

POST 6Original post

Glad the trip went well, and again good luck in the new opportunity.

POST 7Original post

Tim, great to hear you're safe and sound!! Maybe I missed something, but did you take the P-car down to TX with you? Post or PM me and let us know how the new job goes. All the best to you and your family.

POST 8Original post

good to hear all went well. Have a great time in Dallas!

Phil, Yeah, I drove the P-car down. She ran well. Oh, and NO speeding tickets thanks to cruise control!

POST 10Original post

Tm, glad you made it to Dallas, and thanks for sharing some info and time with me on the pcars before I made my purchase. John

POST 13Original post

Welcome to Dallas. Ask any questions, I've been here 39 years! We live in the Uptown area

POST 14Original post

Great to hear that you made it to Dallas without any issue, not even a speed ticket You must have resist the temptation to speed in a P-car on an open road, right? So for now, you still have your 996 until the lease is over, is that right? Enjoy the car as much as you can. Again welcome to DFW! Cheers,

Yeah, I know. I inadvertantly hit the Submit button twice and created two threads. But I did close the second one. Don't I get any credit for that???

POST 16Original post

Hope life in Texas treats you good. Enjoy your new job in good health.

POST 19Original post

Gota911: Yeah, get ready to drive fast and defensively too! I'm here in business this week and they really are aggressive drivers around here. I drive in Chicago, my home and get to places like LA - a controlled crazy but DFW and Houston scare me the most. Nothing about the people here they are just aggressive (The people are great though don't get me wrong - friends and family here) 99C2

POST 20Original post

congratulations! I'm in Dallas and Austin next month, have been thinking about domiciling in TX for a while now (taxes), this might be the year.

POST 21Original post

As a native Dallasite and having attended The University of Texas in Austin, I'd vote for Austin HANDS DOWN

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5140252

You are correct on the agressive part. I have seen more "triple lane changes" in the past two days than I saw in 6 years in NC. !@#$%^&* pickup trucks!

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 5141069

austin is definitely in the lead for warm winters, and one of my good friends from back home owns a very nice nightclub there as well. Only thing that worries me is the summers, my blood's too thick for all those 100+ degree days. I'd live in LA or San Diego near full time if it weren't for the time zone and the taxes, NY full time if I hadn't been there since 1980 and the weather wasn't so terrible (and the taxes). Texas seems ideal being in the middle physically (with cheap, shorter flights to either coast). Is there anyplace in Texas that's cosmopolitan and has good weather for 9+ months?

Riad's right, Tim. Without that, you're just "all hat and no cattle."

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 5141451

Tim has been that for a long time - what's new?

POST 27Original post

And don't eat the bbq. Them Texans think BBQ is all about dark brown sauce with beef brisket swimming in it. Actually, I kind of enjoyed it. Was at the '03 SuperBowl for the Panthers and we went to the commissioner's event, then the bbq cookoff of Houston. Absolutely amazing stuff they can do with beef, just like those of us here in the real south can do with pork. Enjoy yourself. Did you get the job with that special picture site so we can all get benefits?

POST 28Original post

Welcome back Tim, I also feel Austin is hands down the best city to live in, in Texas, with DFW coming a close second.......

POST 29Original post

Tim - there are lots of nice 996s for sale in Texas... So great deals too! Do we need to start a count down till your lease is up?

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's good to be back to REAL BBQ, beef! I never could get used to the pork BBQ in NC. I am not a big fan of pork to begin with, but the vinegar based sauce was horrible. I had Pork BBQ once in 7 years there. No, we don't need a count down. The end will come soon enough as it is!

POST 31Original post

Hey Tim, Best wishes for your continued success...this time in Texas. I drove through Charlotte on Friday. Didn't realize you were in Dallas already. Was thinking about checking to see if you were on-line but it was only 4 hours into our trip home and had to make some time. Glad to hear your trip went well. Having lived in Texas in the early 80's and then visiting a few times since be sure to take a trip to San Antonio when your wife joins you there. The riverwalk is one of the nicest places in all of Texas. Good luck, Andy T

Austin really fits that bill..go to weather.com and type Austin, Texas in the search and scan the page till you find a link to median annual temps. The hills, the water, the women, the school, the overall demeanor of the whole city - really can't be beat (in Texas). FWIW, my other fave. cities in U.S. are San Fran, Chicago, Atlanta and Breckenridge - so, I'm not just being a Texas homer here!

POST 34Original post

Quotes source post: 5141741

You want great BBQ, go to Memphis - best I've ever had! Never been to Texas in my life, so I wouldn't know. On another note, notice that my S4 is headed out. It's a long story, but I've ordered a new Audi TT Roadster to replace it. The S4 doesn't even have as many miles as the Porsche does!

POST 35Original post

Oh yes, I've got to agree that Texas BBQ is way better than the vinegar based Carolina BBQ. I was a little unimpressed when I got my BBQ pork in NC.

Andy, Thanks for the best wishes. Yes, the Riverwalk is very nice. We lived in San Antonio for over 25 years so we are very familiar with teh city. My wife and I both have family in SA.

POST 37Original post

Tim you (as always) disappointed me!......NO speeding tickets???? WTF....cruise control??? And making fun of my tip eh! Well at least I got speeding tickets! LOL Anyways...have a great time in Dallas...get a cowboy hat and a GUN (get a horse once you lease is up) and post images of your new home (I mean ofcourse the part where you P is parked)

POST 38Original post

Hey Tim...Welcome to Big D! Will be in touch for lunch.

POST 39Original post

Good luck! I have an office in Irving. The 4 Seasons Las Colinas has a great gym and they just did a ton of work to their golf course, if you are looking to join a place...

POST 40Original post

Welcome to Dallas...what general area are you in? Uptown in hard to beat but we are just north of there in an older part of town called the Park Cities. Lot's of older homes getting torn down at a frantic pace. There are also some VERY cool high rises like The W, Ritz Carlton, etc. Traffic can be horrendous, depending on which direction you are going at what time of day, in particular in/out of the outlying suburbs. You've noticed our aggressive drivers, eh? I have friends come here from LA and say WE scare THEM. Someone asked about cosmopolitan cities in Texas...Dallas is really working on it with more "in town", urban development and the food scene has taken off in the last 10-15 years, not that it was ever bad. Also, you'll see a lot fewer cowboy hats that many would expect...usually worn by tourists! :-)).

POST 41Original post

Cowboy hats!! HA!! I've got some property in Aubrey NW of Dallas about 45 miles and whats always funny to me is when I'm out there how drastically different demographics are compared to being "in the loop". I agree Dallas has really stepped up urban development and has had a recent influx of more "cosmo" oriented business

POST 42Original post

Not a whole of of people in Dallas actually FROM Dallas, or Texas for that matter...not to imply anything wrong with "locals"...I married one of the few local Dallas girls I even know. Although she is an Aggie, so we are working through that!

POST 43Original post

Quotes source post: 5146623

One good thing about being married to Aggy (sic) is they probably went through college without much attention from those sheep humpers down there! \m/ HOOK EM

POST 44Original post

Welcome (back) to Texas. As we in Austin are fond of saying, "we've got room enough for just about everybody." Friendliest place I've lived. Heck, my wife even loves it, and she's a born-and-bred New Yorker. As for barbeque...generalizing about Texas barbeque is, well, just too danged general. We choose a place to go based on what we want that meal because there are so many different places, styles, specialties, and so forth. I usually look for the Shiner Bock sign out front.

POST 46 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Guys, thanks for the welcome to Dallas & Texas. My office is in Coppell, just north of the DFW airport. Yeah, the traffic is a little "much" compared to what I was uswd to in NC. I get to see another "triple lane change" yesterday by, you guessed it, someone in a !@#$%^&* pick-up truck. Hey, how ya doing? Are you going to keep the 40th?

POST 47Original post

Yes, a lot of these girls hang out at my daughters dance studio. My wife is not nearly as impressed as I am

POST 52Original post

Yeah, it's always tough adapting to the driving style of a different part of the country. I still am not a big fan of PA drivers... they're incompetent in rain or snow and have no clue how to turn left or merge onto a freeway... never merge on behind a car with a PA plate as they're likely to come to a complete stop on the ramp.
