I've been looking at some '02's to buy, but the best deals seem to be far away from where I live. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to get an out of state car inspected short of me flying over there and doing it myself? I was thinking of something like getting a shop in the car's area to go look at it, but I'm not sure if that is plausible since I've never done it before. Thanks for any advice.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Bear, I just did exactly what you are planning. I had a local Porsche dealer ( in the area that the car is in) do a pre-purchase inspection ($125.00) , give the owner a copy and call me the results /fax me the paperwork. Worked great! The dealer said this was very routine. Regards.
I did the same - IRA Porsche in Mass. did it for me for around $100. I also had the car checked out at a body shop. Both shops gave me a detailed report. I got to speak with the tech that did the inspection at both places on the phone from Hawaii. I was pretty confident when the car arrived and I was not disappointed in the condition that was fully described to me. I wouldn't buy a car sight unseen without doing so. Good luck!
I have done this 3 times. I am 2 for 3 with one bad experience. My advice is to post the place you are considering doing the PPI here and see if there is anyone here that has dealt with them and if the place is recommended or not. I had a Porsche Delearship do a PPI that wasn't worth what it cost me (which was nothing because I disputed the charge on my credit card).
Thanks for the responses, I probably will go with an out of state car, since the cars around here in chicago seem to be at least $5k higher on average, which is a premium I don't really want to pay.
Keep in mind you're going to have to pay thousands to ship the car and have the added worry of damage during shipping unless you can buy from someplace close enough to drive it home. Also, if you arent willing to buy sight unseen (I would really advise strongly against buying sight unseen no matter who did the PPI), then you will also need to add the cost of a plane ticket to see any cars you get serious about.
