Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I borrowed a 996 pre-facelift off a friend for a while, nice car, but the rattle from the hard top is driving me mad. it almost sounds like its loose, but there is no movement in it. Is there an easy way to stop this? Also is a 2000/2001 car a 3.4 or a 3.6 engine? Cheers!

POST 2Original post

2000/01 is a 3.4 engine There are TSB's for rattling tops...best thing to do is donate to RennTech.org and get access to all of the rattle TSB's.

POST 6Original post

Sounds like it just needs to be adjusted. Any relevant TSB's or a competent indy could fix that quickly. Mine is solid as a rock when on my 996CAB and has NEVER had any rattles, etc.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can anyone tell me how to adjust it, and what needs to be done? The Adjustment key with the red top is in the car.

POST 8Original post

Gabi - I think there was a thread on this subject maybe 3 or 4 months ago. Do a search on hard top and you should be able to find it.

POST 9Original post

That red-handled tool is not an "adjustment key" as far as I know. Its simply for installing and removing the hard top.
