I've got a 2003 996 coupe with 10600 miles. I do not drive it often, and everytime I pull it back into the garage, i can smell a scent that is 1/2 clutch, 1/2 oil. Is this normal??? I admit that when I do take it out, I drive it with spirit, but only when fully warm, and not to the level of abuse. There are no oil leaks or anything like that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Chirag

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This is normal. I notice that I don't smell it if I give it a chance to burn off/cool down before I shut the car down after some hard driving. You need to drive your car more! Porsches aren't supposed to be garage queens- leave that for Ferrari. just messin with ya but really... your car will like you better for it.
Ah, the sweet smell of cosmoline.
I had the same question when I just bought the P.....you get used to it..it supposed to be normal (something to do with the heat of the engine getting vented in the wheel well.....it smells like rubber and oil.....after 7K in 5 months I got used to it.
Agreed. Think of letting the car cool down before turning it off in the same vein as walking around after a hard sprint instead of collapsing to the ground.
Do you guys let it cool down after every drive, or only after very hard drivng? Anyone purchase a turbo timer so that it will automatically leave the engine on? (Even in non-turbo cars)?
