I typically accelerate in the 2000 - 4500 RPM range. Maybe mostly because I am not used to driving such a high-rev capable car... I can't help flinching at the engine noise above 5000 RPM... all my instincts tell me to shift before the damn thing throws a rod or something, ha! Unfortunately this 3.4 liter is sluggish until it hits 4500. It's heavy. Getting the pricey racing seats will lighten it up a bit but not enough. Going with the lighter battery mod seems like a pain and with so many electronics in this car I don't want to mess around with that. Maybe an ECU chip upgrade and a cold-air intake? I've either got to find an economically reasonable way to increase power below 4500 or get over myself and start driving the *%$# out of the engine by keeping it in the 5000-6500 range. Did I mention that this car is out of warranty?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Short of a supercharger (which has its own risks) you aren't going to be able to add more than 25 hp to a NA car (chip, intake, headers & exhaust). You might be able to do something with drive and transmission gearing but that is costly as well. A C4 with a 3.4l engine just won't have Vette-like low end torque.......thats why they make a TT
I wouldn't worry too much about going above 5k RPM, as long as you're not consistently going all the way to redline. From everything I've read, and heard from other owners, this car is very comfortable going into higher RPM ranges. The sound and the push you get when you do push the engine are the main reasons I bought my 2000 Cab. I think you run a higher risk of having costly things occur if you try any major mods to the engine. Cold air intake shouldn't add risk, but make sure you swap out the filter properly, or you will probably trip your check engine light.
