Looking for a 996, is it fair to estimate a tip to be 10% less expensive than a 6 speed? Also is a targa a premium or a discount on a coupe? Tips in my area are not common so pegging a value on them seems difficult. Thanks in Advance.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yeah, 10-15% is about right. Targa is less desirable than coupe, don't let the salesperson pursuade you otherwise by showing you a higher MSRP. Targa is the heaviest of 996 C2. I'd opt for a coupe or cab. As for tip or 6spd, it's your preference but if you are used to manual, I'd not bother looking at tips. If it's the other way around, tips are amongst the best automatic I've driven. Even better than MB's autobox, which is pretty much primo IMO.
The Targa is not heavier than a Cab, and has superior rigidity, being based on a coupe. It's actually lighter than a C4S (which means faster). The heaviest 996 is the TT. Not sure where you got your numbers. Targas sell at a higher price than coupes, but sell more slowly because it's a niche audience. I'm biased, of course, but I think its the best normally aspirated 996, short of the GT3.
Must be a tip, bad left foot. So the tip brings down the price but the targa puts is back up? A cab has no appeal, already have a tip, targa, 964 for sunny days. I am correct that 996 targa only appeared after 02?
So the guy made a mistake..I dont understand Targas, Its NOT a coupe and its NOT a cab...What is it?
Targa tip weighs 3296lb and it is the heaviest C2. Cab tip is 3142lb. These # are from Porsche. The glass top weighs more than the fabric top and alum top mechanism. Let's not compared C2 to C4S or TT. They are in different price range altogether. Targas are 02-04.
Jones, my car is for sale... http://www.969motorsports.com/index.php?page=nfo_used1 Was asking for 72k, but will now listen to almost any reasonable offer.
In my NADA book, tip option is shown as an adder to the price. Regards BD
NADA is based on MSPR minus depreciation. It's a flaw in most book value calculater to add auto to the value of sports car instead of reducing it. In a recent local meet, I was surprised to see how many tips were modified. Who says tip owners aren't enthusiasts? However, tips are definitely less in resale.
Just for the sake of clarity: From Porsches spec book ('02 numbers): Carrera cab 3141 lbs Carrera cab tip 3262 C2 Targa 3119 C2 Targa tip 3240 So the Cab is heavier than the Targa, but not by much. But the big difference is in the drive; if you haven't done an extended back to back drive between a Targa (or coupe) and a Cab, you probably wouldn't believe the difference. The coupes and Targa feel considerably tighter and the there's a much more immediate feel to steering inputs due to the better structural integrity. That's the point of the Targa, of course; to give the driving experience of a coupe while still affording some open air capability. I wouldn't argue it's for everybody, but for those who value handling over going completly topless, it's a nice choice. I have a friend with a Cab; I didn't say anything to him to taint his perception the first time he drove the Targa; he got out shaking his head; he couldn't believe how much sharper the responses were than in the roofless car.
I don't get the Cab--it's not a coupe and it's not a Targa!
The weight doesn't matter to me as the car won't be tracked ... probably no mods either .... just driven daily.
