What'd you do if you were in my position: After 10,000 mi. on my '01 C4 Cab. I had a new engine put in after it blew its gasket. When I expressed my frustrations to the dealer's GM he offered to take my car & give me a '02 Targa (similarly equiped) if I pay $8,000 USD. I'm in Canada. Is this a good deal?

A 2002 Targa sounds delicious, increased horsepower, better construction, etc. I am loving mine. The Targa top has been awesome! I have had no problems at all. Currently, mine is at the body shop getting a turbo nose installed and also getting tinted (harmful UV rays). Go for the 2002 Targa, afterall it's a NEW car!
Targaman: thx. for your thoughts. The one offered to me is also a Black/Black 6-sp. I am just a bit concerned with the old Targa having leaking problems. Sounds like you haven't experienced any. I love my Cab., but with a dislocated shoulder it's straining to deal with the hard top. Targa is charming, but what's your guess that a few years down the road whether it'll hold its value well compared to a C4S? BTW, great pictures. Looks cool w/ the clear sidemarkers!
I agree with targaman naturaly. Me and him being as far as i can tell the only 02 targa owner I had a chi=oise between a cab and a targa and I chose the tara based on two things. First, it's a perfect compromise between a coupr and a cab. There's no need to stop on the side of the road if it suddenly rained or it got to sunny or windy. You just push a button and it's closed. The other thing was that I knew that it would be plenty stiff. Up to now there are no sqeeks or groans and I'm not expecting any. It's really that well built. Unless your going to race it then you might not even notice the weight penalty over a coupe. It's, to me, the perfect four-seasons car. Hope that helped you any
I think that the resale value will hold up just fine. Especially over the next few years when Porsche owners and enthusiasts alike will acknowledge the fact that the new targa has been completey redesigned off of the coupe, not the cabrio. The new construction is very strong and sturdy. Regards, Dan
I think it's a good deal even tho I have a Cab. Only thing you will miss is the "real" open top feeling, and on the right day there's nothing like it. That said, I'd still go for it. Good investment and lots of fun with a real limited edition car. Only about 650 made in North America for 2002.
Thx. for all your thoughts & experiences. It helped me solidify my decision to trade!! Soon to be: Targaman2 '02 Targa Blk/Blk 6 sp. Prem. Pkg. Heated Seats
Congratulations! I hope the transition is smooth and that you enjoy your new Porsche. Warm Regards, Dan
Thx. Dan. I value your opinion. Dave
Congarts and i hope you enjoy your new targa. It's good to have another one on board rennlist. Now comes the painfull part, the break-in. I'm glad I was done with that
Three words: pics, pics, pics. Regards.
I'll post some pics as soon as I can find my camera. I just moved a few days ago & everything's still in boxes. Thanks everyone for the encouragement. The move from C4 Cab. to Targa has been great so far ( 3 days later!). David
