Just reading up on some AOS DIYs , is it okay to bypass the coolant lines? Will it create any vac leaks ?

That I dunno. However, the coolant is there to prevent freezing of water vapor in the oil vapor so it may be a problem in Illinois winter.

I wondered the same and could see no other purpose. Its for very cold climates, I assume.
