POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 99 Cab and after oiling the hinges and flaps, etc. the top was slow to close. Low hydraulic fuild? Pump beginning to fail? I went to remove the well carpet to have a look see and ended up breaking the flap / switch (not sure what it is) at the rear end of the well dead center. It looks like it pivots down went the top is stored and rotates up when the top is up. Can anybody identify the flap / clip in the back of the well. Off of a diagram I came up with part # 996-561-465??? Any help on either issue would be great! Thanks

POST 2Original post

My first guess is hydraulic fluid. Common issue. Here's a DIY http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic...-step-by-step/

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. Anybody have any idea on the flap/ clip in the back of the well??

POST 5Original post

Sounds like low fluid. Fairly straightforward, but kind of a PITA. If no pcar dealership close, go to a tractor store. I bought John Deere hydraulic fluid for $4.00 a quart. Worked perfectly! Can't help you on the flap thing.

After re-reading your post, I think I know the part you are referring to. The purpose of the plastic flap in the rear of the cabrio top well is to keep the folds of the canvas top from getting damaged by the "hook" that holds down the clamshell cover. Is it this thing? This plastic flap pivots on tiny plastic hinges, about as fragile as the clips on the visor mirror cover I broke one of mine once, but ended up fixing the "hinge" with a small plastic wire-tie/tie-wrap. I think I had to drill a small hole in the plastic to accept the wire tie. Since this piece is hidden, it's no big deal. Make sure the tiny torsional spring is in place to move the flap when the clamshell is raised. Or, you could just order a new one. Looks like it's p/n 996 561 265 01 or 996 561 265 03, and it's #9 on this drawing (No affiliation) Is this the right part?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dead on with the picture. I may go the tie wrap root since it's just a protective cover. I intitally thought that there was a micro switch tucked in there somewhere that might affect the opening or closing of the top. The DIY on the fluid is excellent! Thanks again!

There is a microswitch, but it's on the other end of the cable that moves the clamshell hook. (The microswitch is near the hydraulic pump, and is part # 25 on the drawing . ) Here's where the flap hinge broke on mine, and how I repaired it. I think I ended up doing both sides.

The DIY worked perfectly! About an hour start to finish. The only tip I would add is to back out the fill screw you need an allen wrench, a socket style allen is too long. You could even take a grinder to the short leg and remove a 1/4" to make it easier. Thanks again for the tip !
