Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm going to be replacing my AOS this week and have been told it requires quite a bit of room to get it out. So with that piece of advice I plan on dropping the engine by loosening the motor mounts. When I did this for my coolant tank I probably dropped it 3-4 inches. But for the AOS I might want to drop it a bit more. My question is, how far can it be dropped before I have to worry about either placing too much stress on something or pulling a hose/electrical connection? I will be putting my car up on ramps and will probably jack one side up a bit more for additional space. So how have others done this in the past?

POST 2Original post

I dropped mine to the very end of the motor mount bolts and supported the engine with the jack. That gave me enough room

I actually dropped mine a little further when I did the coolant tank. But it's refreshing to hear you had enough room in there just by lowering the motor by that amount. I just wonder if it's the same with the 2002 model since I read things are packed a little more tightly in there. Parts come in on Wednesday, so I'm going to work on it a bit every night after I get home and try to have it done by Sunday. So I'll probably do the bulk of the work on Saturday. AOS, water pump, and oil pressure sending unit...should be fun!
