Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I wanted feed back on the BM Short Shifter for the 996. Is it worth the $$$ TIA appreciate feedback.

POST 2Original post

Most people have been happier with the 997 shifter.

POST 3Original post

The B&M has a really short throw. To me it doesnt match well with the length of the clutch movement. +1 on the 997 shifter. Are you tracking the car? what are you trying to achieve by switching shifter?

POST 4Original post

I have it and really like it - but I bought it because my previous car was a S2000 which has a very short throw. I tried the 997 shifter and thought it was better but still a little loose. I'd try a b&m before you buy. It's the exact same as the Porsche OEM if that helps you find one to drive...

POST 5Original post

My C4S was sold to me as having a short shift, how can i tell if it has one fitted or not, do i need to strip it all down to look in and see?. If so what would i expect to see as oppose to a normal one?. My C4S is a RHD UK car. Thanks Carl

POST 6Original post

Pull up the shifter boot and take a peek - if the shifter mechanism is metal and blue (B&M) or purple (OEM) then it's one of those short shift kits

POST 7Original post

Sorry to ask this noobie question but how do i pull the shift boot up?

POST 8Original post

I have the Porsche 997 Factory Short Shift Kit and I love it. Best mod I ever did.. http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/X99742498300.html

POST 10Original post

How does the boot unclip though?. I have read elsewhere that the clips can break if not done correctly. Does the 996 shift **** fit the 997 shift mechanism?. Is the 997 Turbo also compatible, that is a short shift in itself isnt it?.

POST 11Original post

I'm a big fan of the B&M. I did not like it at first and thought it was a little cumbersome but I adjusted the stops a little and I think it broke in a little bit as well and I couldn't be happier with it. It is very precise and short.

POST 12Original post

I love the B&M, it is very short throw, but after a few days anyways you won't even notice it. it will be just right. I would do it all over again and I can't think of getting anything with longer throw. Best mod for the bucks for sure. Second to that FisterD exhaust mod Third : suspension upgrade if you have some twisty roard to kill

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the responses. I already have the B&M Short Shifter new in the box, and plan on installing it this weekend. However, I was talking with another 996 owner, and he suggested to me that the 997 shifter was better and I should check it out Based on what is said here and others that I've spoken with, I'm going to go ahead and install it and believe that it will be an improvement to the stock shifter. I'll share my impressions with the group after I've had an opportunity to use it for a while Next mods will be the X pipe, plenum and suspension

POST 15Original post

I love mine, took a few days to get used to the short throw but after that i love it
