Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Took my '99 996 on trip earlier this month to the PCA Escape in South Dakota. 9 days, 3600 miles, no problems! Car was great on the interstate and even better on the backroads. Route Twin Falls, ID for the sunset and moonrise Craters of the Moon NP Grand Teton NP Perfect fall colors Yellowstone NP, Old Faithful, and a Bison Devil's Tower Rushmore Perfection Sunset Not ideal driving conditions Big Horn Sheep at Badlands No high speed runs at the Salt (lake) Flats And lots more photos here Now, start planning your trip!

Thanks! Pentax K-3 with (mostly) Pentax 16-50 f/2.8 and Sigma 70-200 f/2.8.

POST 4Original post

Nice - thanks for sharing! Looks like a great trip.

POST 5Original post

Nice photos vitaminC. I have several very similar photos from our trip to, and during, Escape 2015 including this one. And another spectacular sunset shot (minus the cars though) Since you're from the Bay Area, I guess you are not the guy from San Diego who insisted he drove the longest distance to Escape. (with apologies to the RL community as you had to be there to understand what this is all about). It was a great time despite the weather, especially Saturday.

POST 6Original post

That surprises me. Black bad *** wheels and the original pumpkins still in place.

Maybe they should score it like PAX, with a multiplier based on the age and comfort level of your car! Yeah, even with the wet weather, it was still a great event.

It's just plasti-dip over the OEM 17"-ers!

POST 10Original post

Wow! Some seriously great photography! That sunset shot with the p cars is gorgeous. I dig the fog picture too. Glad you enjoyed the trip and the car performed well.

lol, you haven't driven your car that far since you've had it, and you get to fly whereever you want. whiner

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, all! I appreciate the compliments. Only downside of this trip is that it's taking a lot of work to get the car clean again...

When we got back from the Rushmore/Needles drive on Saturday afternoon, I remarked to my wife that I had never seen so much debris (mud really) on the Porsche. The wash facilities the hotel provided worked OK, but I now know what supplies to bring with me to the next such event so I can wash the car without risking so many fine scratches in the paint.

I'm surprised you didn't post a snapshot of the Rapid City dino's.... On your next trip into Wyoming try a little road called 130 thru the Bad Medicine mountains, just west of Laramie ... highly recommended. Match that with US 50 from Delta Utah to Virginia City and 341 to Reno. So many good ways to get thru the Sierra Nevada's I drove out from South Lake Tahoe on 4 down thru Angle Camp and 49 to Mariposa. In route from Minneapolis to Rennsport V. The return was back on 88 from Jackson to Carson City. Like you and that young good looking lady you travel with - we still have a smile from our travels in our 996's. If only I had the talent to take some wonderful photos like you have....

We did go to dino park! Were you the one we were talking to? Yes, so many good roads that we did not have sufficient time to explore

POST 21Original post

Great Photos.Would have liked to have been there.Dane

POST 22Original post

Yup that's our two silver 996's in the dino parking lot. Thank you for posting - your photos are great. If others ever get the chance to drive the western states roads, do it, - they are way fun.
