Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Where is the best place to find a 996 roller. Bad engine or less engine? Whats the range of price to expect. Condition does not have to be nice.

POST 2Original post

1) Hang around here for a while. 2) You can get into a roller for $5K and up. Rebuilders are snatching up cores - so it'll be cheaper to get one with no engine at all if the core was salvagable. OTOH, if you find a roller with a workable core still installed, you can probably recover a decent amount of your purchase price by selling the core.

POST 3Original post

There's been a roller for sale in chicago CL for a few weeks. Started at $7k, down to $5k now I believe. No engine, no trans, and body damage. Probably worth less than $5k.

POST 4Original post

I just searched for that, also saw it on ebay, sold for $4900 yesterday or a few days ago.....01.

POST 5Original post

That car needed a lot of help. I don't know what you plan on doing, but your probably better off finding a roller with a trans and damaged motor, and less body damage.

POST 6Original post

Mine is a "roller" just found out a couple months ago I have scored cylinders, #4 and #6

POST 7Original post

You might also email Flat6 and let them know that you are looking for a roller - you'd think that some number of people who get unfortunate news would be interested in knowing how to recoup what they can if their 996 goes south.

POST 8Original post

If you believe that our engines will self destruct, then there should be plenty of rollers to choose from for sale...

POST 9Original post

Where is KK to tell us that all M96 cars are rollers, they just don't know it yet?

Thinking for a parts car, or do you want to get knee-deep in M96 land?

Wouldn't mind finding a rough, motor-less or bad motor 996 I can do an ls1 swap. If I can find it for the right price

That sounds like a fun project - one I wouldn't mind seeing unfold! Good luck and keep us posted.

Getting rid of it, can't afford to fix it at this time. It's nice, manual arctic silver, 125,000 miles swapped out the front bumper for a turbo bumper, no pumpkins on the side. I'll try to scrounge up some pics of it. Make me an offer
